According to the U.S. M1 Garand Serial Numbers production chart, this U.S. International Harvester M1 Garand Rifle represents a production date of 1955, and sports the original LMR barrel dated "6-55". STOCK MARKINGS: Left side cartouche and "P" proof under the grip. SPECS: 24" barrel, walnut stock & handguard, adjustable aperture rear battle sight, wing protected front post sight, bayonet lug, sling rings, checkered metal buttplate with cleaning kit compartment (does not include kit), green canvas sling and 8-round internal magazine. CONDITION: This gun is in nice excellent condition, has a perfect sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order. This rifle comes in a green Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) hardcase, en-bloc clip and manual (does not include certificate). Each M1 Garand rifle sold by CMP is an authentic U.S. Government rifle that has been inspected, headspaced, repaired, if necessary, and test fired for function. HISTORY: The M1 Garand is a .30-06 caliber semi-automatic rifle that was the standard U.S. service rifle during World War II and the Korean War. The M1 rifle was named after its Canadian-American designer, John Garand. The M1 Garand replaced the bolt-action M1903 Springfield as the standard U.S. service rifle in 1936, and General George S. Patton called it "the greatest battle implement ever devised". It is a gas-operated, 8 shot clip-fed, semi-automatic rifle that is 43.6" long, weighs about 9.5 pounds and has a 24" barrel.
