These bandoliers are shown on pages 788-790 of the book , U.S. MILITARY HOLSTERS AND RELATED ACCOUTREMENTS by Edward Scott Meadows. 1.) Mills Model 1917 Cavalry Bandolier. Marked "MADE BY/ MILLS WOVEN CARTRIDGE BELT CO./ WORCESTER MASS. USA. on the end tab. The khaki bandolier is also marked on back " E', "311", "56" and "crossed sabers". 12 pockets for rifle ammunition with "Lift-The Dot" fasteners. Three pockets in the center hold loose revolver cartridges and are fastened with plain "Carr Patent" snaps. CONDITION: the webbing shows little wear but has scattered light staining from long storage. The "Mills Bronze" fittings retain most of their subdued finish. 2.) Unmarked Model 1917 Cavalry Bandolier fits the description of the previous bandolier with the exception that the pistol ammunition pockets have a more pleated appearance at the bottoms. CONDITION: bandolier has seen a very little careful use showing little wear, scattered light staining and light high point wear on the subdued fittings. 3.) Model 1918 contract cavalry bandolier with sewn construction. This unmarked bandolier is stitched from canvas and has a greenish hue. The tongue is a notably greener shade and has a rounded tab. There are 12 pockets for rifle ammunition with "Lift-The-Dot" fasteners. The three pockets for pistol cartridges have plain "Carr Patent " snaps. CONDITION: fabric is in very good condition with tight stitching. Subdued metal fittings have light high point wear and several spots of verdigris. PROVENANCE: The Collection of Edward Scott Meadows.
