Ogden, Utah USA.” Plain wood stock and forearm with and without pistol grips, crescent steel butt plate, with or without ram rod, several receiver configurations, a few were made in the deluxe model, seldom found in better than average condition, with or with out serial number. Approximatly only 100 have survived. Browning Arms Co. & the Winchester Museum have no factory records on this model. Add 40% for Early Rifle stamped “Ogden, UT.” This model is rare since only 550 were manufactured. The patent was sold to Winchester, which became there model 1885 single shot. To date, less than 100 original Model 1878's have been encountered indicating a high mortality rate (most remaining specimens are in poor original condition). 40-70 Caliber SN:313
