Lot # 1 Ross Merrill Original Oil on CanvasOriginal Ross Merrill oil on canvas; "River Bank" Rare vertical scene. 23" x 30". Ross Merrill, has been a landscape painter for over forty-five year during which time he has supported his painting by working as a painting conservator, which led to his position as Chief of Conservation at the national Gallery of Art. Through out his career, he has taught painting, lectured on artists’ techniques and written about painting materials and techniques. One of the leading authorities on the painting techniques of Albert Bierstadt, Thomas Moran and JBS Chardin, more recently, his writing has focused on plein air painting. He has won many awards and is in public and private collections in America, Europe, and Japan. Recently he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma (on the 15 of May) and they started chemotherapy immediately. It is extensive with lots of the bone involved, especially the spine, but he's had good response to the chemo.
