Bisque socket head with chubby and dimpled facial modeling, small brown glass flirty eyes, long painted lashes, modeled brows with decorative glaze, upturned nose with accented nostrils, closed mouth in beaming smile with shaded and outlined lips, impressed cheek dimples, auburn human hair, composition and wooden fully jointed body with painted white socks and brown shoes, antique woolen suit. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: "Moritz", by Kammer and Reinhardt, circa 1914, based upon the original illustration in the books of German author Wilhelm Busch. Very Rare American Carved Wooden Exhibition Horse By Schoenhut

Lot # 27 (Sale Order: 27 of 367)      

29" (74 cm.) An all-wooden carved horse with brown glass eyes, carved nostrils and open mouth with defined teeth, carved detail of knees and hooves, horsehair mane and tail, leather ear, is mounted upon a wheeled wooden platform with center iron rod in the manner of a carousel. The horse is painted in the dappled style of the classic Schoenhut circus horse with ochre shading at the nose and black hooves. Condition: structurally excellent, fine professional restoration of painting. Comments: Schoenhut, circa 1910, the horse was created as an exhibition model for display presentation. Value Points: extremely rare, very few examples of this exhibition model are known to exist.

20" (50 cm) wagon. 32" (81 cm) overall. A wooden parade flatbed wagon with stage top is lavishly decorated with embossed paperboard on the sides having richly gilded circus scenes including chariot rider with horse, lion head, and bareback rider, and is labeled with raised letters "Humpty Dumpty Circus". The flatbed was decorated wooden wheels, driverÕs seat with clown driver, chained posts around the perimeter, and is driven by a team of dappled horses with harnesses on wooden wheeled base. A red wooden framed chariot with pressed paperboard sides decorated with embossed winged and scroll designs centered by a lionÕs head at the front has two wooden wheels with carved designs, and is being pulled by a carved wooden burro with glass eyes and original harness. Standing in the chariot is a carved wooden clown with two-part head, original costume with clover, diamond and star designs. Comments: attributed to Leo Moss, the black itinerant artist is believed to have worked in Georgia in the early 20th century, creating black portrait dolls from gathered scraps that he carefully saved from his occasional work in house painting and wall-papering; the attribution is uncertain.
