Lot # 8

1787 Connecticut Mailed Bust Left. ANACS VF30

ANACS graded VF30 Details Glue Residue. Miller 4-L, R.1. This is an early die state of what would later become the Horned Bust variant, but here there is no trace of the horned-like die crack that produces that feature. Medium brown color with the numbers 4 1 appearing in the left obverse field, an M is in the right field, presumably glue residue. Still, an attractive piece, free of singular abrasions. Listed on page 59 of the 2009 Guide Book. (PCGS # 349)

Lot # 12

1786 Vermont VERMONTENSIUM. ANACS VF35

Lot # 14

1781 North American Token. ANACS F12

ANACS graded F12 Details Altered Surfaces. Breen-1144. Breen believed the North American token was struck in Dublin during the 1810s, and exported to the United States because of its war-caused chronic shortage of coppers. This well circulated example appears unnaturally dark and cleaned on the reverse. Listed on page 69 of the 2009 Guide Book. (PCGS # 589)

Lot # 15

1793 Liberty Cap Half Cent. ANACS F12

ANACS graded F12 Details Corroded. C-2, B-2, R.3. An appealing well circulated specimen of this classic first half cent issue, vital to specialists in the denomination and collectors by design type. Deep reddish-brown with notable granularity visible in the fields as indicated by ANACS on the holder. The date and all design elements are quite visible, HALF CENT is weak at the central reverse. A couple of ancient marks are noted at the lower portion of Liberty's bust. They are old and blend into the patina. The in-hand visual appeal is desirable and invites both examination and bidding competition. With high end examples bringing truly spectacular prices, specimens like this are apt to climb upward as well. The present piece can be included in a cabinet with pride (PCGS # 1000)

The obverse portrait is outlined, the date and LIBERTY are unreadable., and the chain is clear on the reverse. Numerous small rim bumps are noticed, as are scratches and pitting. An affordable example for the budget-minded collector (PCGS # 1341)

1796 Liberty Cap Cent. ANACS VF20

ANACS graded VF20. S-87, B-8, Low R.3. The 6 in the date is low, a double leaf is left of ONE. A richly defined medium brown example. Some minor porosity shows on each side, but this hardly detracts from the overall appearance. A highly collectible example (PCGS # 1392)

Lot # 19

1798 Draped Bust Cent Second Hair Style. ANACS VF30

ANACS graded VF30 Details Scratched. S-187, B-40, R.1. This pairing is by far the most common variety of the year, always available in lower grades and middle grades without difficulty, yet it is elusive in grades above XF. Medium chocolate-brown surfaces. A small cluster of marks is noted surrounding the digits of the date, however, these hardly detract (PCGS # 1434)

Lot # 22

1848 Coronet Head Cent. NGC PF66

NGC graded PF66 RB. N-19, Low R.6. Ex: P. Kaufman Collection. A Proof-only die pairing with only about 25 pieces known. This glorious Gem has extremely impressive surfaces overall. The date was originally entered in the die with a sharp slant down to the right. The base of a 1 is recut above, the 4 slightly to the left, and the final 8 slightly below. The reverse has a fine die line on the rim over TED, and this same die line can be seen on all Proof large cents of the 1840s. All of these coins were struck from the same reverse die; either the reverse die was saved from year to year for use only on Proof coins, or all of these coins were struck at the same time, at some later date. This Gem example has intermingled deep crimson-red and blue-purple color over each side displayed in a somewhat mottled manner. It is sharply struck with slight cameo contrast. An important offering for the early copper specialist (PCGS # 1973)
