Lot # 10100 (Sale Order: 1 of 554)

Here is a beautiful lithograph print by one of the most famous artists of the 20th century, Henri Matisse. The gorgeous, signed print entitled "101 Nights (Juin '50)" is an exhibition poster created by the artist. The artwork is typical of Matisse's mature style in its use of forms which appear to be cut-out of paper. Shown here is a unique piece of artwork created by renowned American artist, Ken Keeley. This work, entitled: "20th Century Newsstand" is a mixed media piece utilizing various collage elements to form an almost 3D effect. In this work, Keeley has juxtaposed various figures of 20th century pop culture and placed them within a newsstand setting. Keeley's process: The figures have been culled from various newspaper headlines and magazine covers and were then painstakingly reproduced in a smaller format by Keeley. Keeley then took the individual reproductions and collaged the pieces into the setting by floating them with clips and other devices. The result is an overlap effect, which gives the piece an overall feeling of reality. This piece has been framed and measures 34.5 inches x 50 inches overall. Image size is approximately 24 inches x 39 inches. A handsome mat encloses the collage to give the piece a shadow box-like effect. The piece is in very good condition. This unique and unusual work of art could be yours today! ARTIST BIO:Ken Keeley is an American artist who is recognized as a leader in superrealism. Sensitive Kaoru Saito VIOLET REST Modern Japanese Art

Lot # 10119 (Sale Order: 20 of 554)

This sensitive mezzotint is by popular and avidly collected Japanese artist Kaoru Saito: Title: "Violet Rest" 1988 Mezzotint 14¼ × 16-1/8 Signed and numbered from an edition of 93 Bright and fresh; never mounted, matted or framed Certificate of Authenticity Kaoru Saito is basically self-taught in the mezzotint process, yet he is considered to be one of its most accomplished technicians. It is an extremely difficult, labor-intensive and rarely practiced print method, including scratching hundreds, if not thousands of passes across a metal plate until the entire surface has a rough, uniform texture. The plate would print solid black if it were now run through the press. A burnishing tool is then used to rub smooth the areas which will print from gray to white. Mezzotint rewards the skilled practitioner with subtle shading and incredible graphic detail. Images in this series that include color were printed with additional, aquatint plates. Saito, now in his 70s, was born and still lives in Kanagawa prefecture, Japan.
