Lot # 351 9BB-7 QUEEN ANNE FLLOT 351 Queen Anne-style flintlock pistol signed Barbar, London, circa 1700-1725. The pistol measures approximately 12” overall with 5-3/4” cannon barrel of approximately .69 cal. The pistol shows fine silver butt cap, silver sideplate and silver plaque inlaid at wrist. The pistol remains in good condition showing a light gray patina finish, some light cleaning long ago but still sharp engraving, some scattered erosion and pinprick pitting. The lock retains its original hammer, frizzen, springs and small parts other than top jaw screw, which is an old replacement. The stocks are good showing some well-done repairs and light refinishing but still very sharp carving at the wrist. Silver mounts are good showing some slight cleaning but generally well-defined castings. The pistol shows British proofs at the bottom of the barrel and the #2 indicating that it was originally one of a pair. A good Queen Anne pistol by desirable maker. Est.: $1,750-$3,500.

Lot # 352 9CG-5 BELT KNIFE CACTUS HANDLELOT 352 J Rodgers & Sons, Sheffield, England marked dirk or belt knife with approximately with 4-7/8” blade and 8-7/8” overall showing cast German silver grip in the form of a cactus with original scabbard. The blade is in good condition showing some slight edging and sharpening, some minor cleaning but generally good. The hilt and guard show a good patina. The scabbard is good to very good and retains its German silver throat, tip and original leather hanger. These were very popular in the Southwest and Mexico during the period from 1900-1915. Lot # 353 7DG-66 PEARL HAND BELT KNIFELOT 353 Mappin Brothers Hunter’s Companion Marked Semi Spear Point belt knife measuring 9-1/2” overall with 5-1/2” blade. The blade shows cleaning and some pitting, and slight scratches and some sharpening to its edge. The knife is fitted with original ‘to the period’ pearl scales, which are in good to very good condition and an original scabbard is retained, which shows an embossed figure of the sun. The German silver throat and button hanger are retained. The tip is missing. The scabbard shows some losses and slight scuffs and scrapes. It is only fair overall. The sun symbol was popular in Mexico and the American Southwest. Est.: $300-$600.

Lot # 354 7DG-63IXL TORTOISE SHELL GRIPLOT 354 George Wostenholm & Son Washington Works Spear Point Bowie or belt knife with trade logo IXL. Blade measures approximately 5-7/8” and 10-1/4” overall, tortoise shell grip with IXL marked original scabbard. The blade shows 80%-90% of its original bright polish. There is some erosion at the edges and hilt, and some slight sharpening and scratches on the blade. The fragile tortoise shell shows some small chips from the left grip and a large break and loss from the right grip. The scabbard is missing its button hanger and tip, and otherwise is fair to good with some small tatters and losses and very visible IXL gold embossed on front of scabbard. Est.: $400-$800.

Lot # 355 7DG-62 NY BELT KNIFELOT 355 Spear Point belt or bowie knife by Alexander Sheffield, 5-7/8” blade and 10” overall, cow horn grip scales, German silver mounts with original scabbard. Blade shows Union type shield and NY marking for New York and also NY and shield marking on scabbard. The blade has been lightly polished and shows some minor scratches and slight sharpening to the edge but is good overall. The grips are good to very good. The scabbard shows its original throat and tip, and is good with some small scrapes, and the button hanger is missing. This type of knife was made for Civil War soldiers and in particular, those from New York. Est.: $500-$1,000.

Lot # 356 7DG-59 MAPPIN BOWIELOT 356 Spear Point bowie knife marked Mappin Brothers with hunter’s companion trademark, approximately 12-1/4” overall with 7-1/2” blade, stag horn grip with original leather scabbard. The blade is in good to very good condition showing most of its original polish, some slight erosion and minor cleaning and some slight sharpening at the edge. The horn grip is very good+. The leather scabbard is also very good+ and shows tight seams and its original belt hanger with just some minor scuffs and small losses. An attractive 19th Century bowie knife. Est.: $600-$1,200.

Lot # 357 7DG-60 IVORY HANDLE BOWIELOT 357 Clip Point small bowie or belt knife marked Jonathan Crookes with ivory grips and original scabbard. Blade measures approximately 5-7/8” and 9-7/8” overall. Blade is etched with slogan Sure Defense. Blade is in fair condition showing slightly heavy scattered pitting and erosion, and traces of its original bright. The edge has not been sharpened and is its full dimension. The grips are ivory and in good condition with some slight yellowing, minor cracking, etc. The reverse of the blade is marked Sheffield, England, which indicates manufacturer after 1892. The original scabbard is in good condition showing a couple of minor splits, normal folding and carry but generally good overall. Est.: $300-$600.

Lot # 358 8LW-51 LADY SMITHLOT 358 Smith & Wesson First Model Lady Smith, .22 cal., double-action revolver, nickel plated, pearl grips, #19626. The revolver shows a factory 3-1/2” barrel. The revolver retains approximately 80%-90% original nickel, which is evenly drifting and toning and in areas where nickel has lifted the areas are going to a natural patina mostly on the gripping areas and muzzle. There are some light erosion and pinprick pitting starting where the nickel has lifted and some heavier pitting at the breech, barrel and front of cylinder. The markings are fairly sharp. The pearl grips are fair and would have been good other than a large crack through the right grip, which extends clear through the side. The left grip is good with small chips and losses. The action is good; the bore is fair. The release latch, which releases the cylinder, is an old handmade brass replacement. Est.: $500-$1,000.

The rifle remains in good to very good condition showing approximately 26-1/4” medium octagon barrel and 42” overall. Barrel shows approximately 80%-90% original rust-blue finish. The frame shows traces of high polished blue finish which has flaked and now going to a patina where the blue has lifted, some scattered erosion and pinprick pitting. The checkered wood stocks are good to very good with some minor dings, mars and scratches. The rear sight is a three-leaf folding type. The front sight is a Beeche’s type. The tang has been mounted with a Lyman-type peep sight. The action is tight; the bore is near excellent. Est.: $500-$1,000.

The rifle remains in original good to very good condition showing approximately 75%-85% original blue on barrel evenly drifting and some areas of light erosion and pin prick pitting just starting. The frame shows traces of original case hardening drifting to silvery gray, some scattered erosion and pinprick pitting but generally good overall. The wood stocks are good+ with some minor dings, mars, scratches and general use but at least very good overall. The mounts show some slight case hardening as does the patch box. Along with a pair of pommel bags with nicely tooled floral designs, outside pouch and holder for stake or tool. The face of bags have been punched for tie-down, but generally good overall. Lot # 369 8MW-207/216 TOOLED HOLSTER & BELT/COLT WOODSMANLOT 369 Tooled holster and belt for Colt single action. Belt is nicely engraved in marked sterling. Originally a double rig with one holster removed, loops for .38 cal. shells, circa 1910-1940s. Quality of the carving is very good to near excellent. The holster and belt are in very good condition showing some use, some slight flaking and normal leather aging but generally good to very good overall. The size of the holster #40 is marked on the tab but there is no maker’s name. However, it shows distinct California-type floral carving. Along with a holster for Colt Woodsman, circa 1920s-1940s, in very good condition showing Eubanks, Boise, ID, mark. Est.: $200-$400.

Lot # 370 8LW-78 1876 WIN #13080LOT 370 Winchester 1876 Special Order rifle, 45-60 cal, 28” round barrel, full magazine, rifle butt, blue and case hardened finish, possibly select wood, #13080. The rifle shows approximately 75%-85% original bright blue on barrel and magazine tube, some even losses and flaking, and some slight browning where the finish is lifted. There are some light scratches and beginning light surface erosion but generally sharp and crisp overall with altered sharp barrel address and caliber marking. The frame shows 40%-60% original case hardening, drifting to a light silvery gray with strong evidence of case hardening mixed in the original colors. The top of the frame shows some areas of vivid case hardening, as do the protected areas on the tang beneath the lever. The rifle shows the screwed-down dust cover rail, which retains 60%-70% original blue. The dust cover shows 75%-85% original bright blue. The hammer and lever show 60%-70% case hardening with some areas of case hardening still showing strong. The stocks are slightly better than average, with a faint evidence of burl grain, possibly 1x, and some minor scratches, mars and dings but at least very good+ overall with excellent wood-to-metal fit. The buttplate shows strong evidence of case hardening drifting to brown. The action is tight, the interior is very good and the bore is very good+. A nice Special Order ’76 in every regard. Lot # 371 9LJH SOUVENIER CENT BOOKLOT 371 Rare edition book entitled “Souvenir of the Centennial,” copyright 1877, by George D. Curtis. This book was published to illustrate the products made in Connecticut at the time of the centennial. Many guns are pictured, particularly Colts and Sharps. Other important Connecticut factories include silver makers and trophy makers. An actual piece of the Charter Oak, the state tree of Connecticut, is still retained. The book is in good, original condition with slight normal aging. There is a name, George E. Savage, Meriden, Conn., penned in the front flyleaf. A very interesting research book for anyone involved with arms from the centennial or products made in Connecticut during the centennial. Est.: $300-$600.

Lot # 374 9BZ-12 COLT SA #121001LOT 374 Colt Single Action Army revolver, U.S. Artillery Series, .45 cal., 5-1/2” barrel, gray patina finish, one-piece wood grips, #121001, trigger guard #120046, back strap number #54331, barrel #9808, cylinder #2644. The metal surfaces remain in fair condition showing a gray patina finish, some light to slightly heavy surface erosion and pitting with the heavier pitting occurring at the cylinder, firing areas of rear of frame and muzzle. The pistol shows an old cleaning drifting back to patina, some darkening in the areas of the cylinder flutes and other areas where not clean. There are some dings, mars and scratches, and some wear at the edges, but generally fair to good overall. The barrel address is an early italic type and still good. The frame and patent marks are also good. The grips are well worn and show some dings, mars, scratches, a small chip at the toe and general carry and use. The ejector-rod housing is the early type that matches with the barrel, and a brass ejector-rod spring is also of the earlier type and included. Lot # 375 9BZ-10 COLT SA 45 #178878LOT 375 Colt Single Action Army revolver, .45 cal., 4-3/4” barrel, traces of original blue mixed with a brown patina finish, hard rubber grips, #178878. Made about 1897. Right side of frame is stamped with the initials H. f. P. The revolver shows a dark brown patina finish with traces of original blue and case hardening, some scattered erosion and pinprick pitting with some slightly heavier pitting at the firing areas at the cylinder, front of muzzle and left front of ejector-rod housing. The front sight has been trimmed a little. The barrel address is good. The grips are well worn and almost smooth from being carried in a holster a long way. The grips show a nice patina and the fit is impeccable. The caliber markings, barrel address and patent dates are all good. The action is crisp; the bore is good. A good Colt with a lot of character made before the turn of the century. It has the look of being carried in a holster a long way. Est.: $1,500-$2,500. |
