Lot # 1000 Reproduction Of A Renaissance Parade Shield In The Style Of The Original By Georg Sigman Created InThe deep-relief cast decorative Renaissance parade shield of silver-plated copper, a design consisting of two embossed concentric circles, surrounding a gorgon's head in high relief. The inner circle is decorated with six wreaths, each composed of laurel or myrtle, enclosing the Latin name of one of the crowns for the city of Rome. The outer border consists of a continuous frieze of figures symbolizing the foundation of Rome and its illustrious military history. Georg Sigman was world famous for his scuptural skill as an armourer and assisted the Helmschmied of Augsburg, Desiderius Colman in his construction of the armor of Prince Philip, later Philip II of Spain. This shield bears a striking similarity in design to that utilized by Sigman on that particular armor. 23-inches in diameter.
