Colt 1851 navy early london first model - . 36 cal. ; 7. 5” barrel. - fine condition. - brass gripstraps retain about 30% thinning tarnished silver; cylinder & barrel both a dark plum-blue, with barrel in particular giving the appearance of a solid dull-blue color. Barrel has a band of deep blood-type pitting around the front sight area, heavier on left side than right; cylinder has scene very strong for about 2/3 of the circumference, and about gone on the remaining third (i.E. , over about two chambers). Other markings excellent, including london barrel address & british proof marks. Frame & loading lever retain very strong case colors, a bit faded on left side of frame, and especially strong on lever. Some pitting on left recoil shield. My guess is that gun lay on left side in a damp environment or uncleaned blood for a while many decades ago. Working; good nipples, safety pins intact. Good bore. Grips have most varnish, minor loss at left toe, larger loss at right toe. He lists 8 guns in the s/n range 128000’s and 130000’s, no ownership markings. Other new south wales attributed guns are reported as variously marked “police of new south wales” (w/ number), “n.S.W.G. ” (w/ number), & other markings. These early features include “colts patent” marking instead of dates, small percussion style hammer screw, internal loading gate spring, and external conversion assembly numbers. S&w 1st model russian - . 44 russian; 8” barrel. - probably period refinished excellent plus condition. - retains 97-98% bright nickel finish, all parts plated, crisp edges & excellent markings, a few minor nicks & hairline scratches. The nickel plating looks old, and it looks factory quality. In pate’s superb new book on this model, he mentions that s&w contracted out their nickel plating on these, and that some early guns are found “factory original” with all parts plated, including the hammer, latch, trigger & guard (such as on this gun). On later production these parts had contrasting case color or blue finish. He also suggests that large distributors may have had new blued guns from the factory plated to fill orders. This gun is a bit late for the factory full nickel treatment, and it looks as if there may be nickel in a couple dings on the barrel rib, which would definitely indicate post-factory refinish, so let’s treat it as such. Good mech; light roughness in bore - original grips numbered to gun have been lightly sanded with “e.E.P. ” carved in each panel. Under the grips is a rolled up piece of chamois inked with the name of the previous owner, who got the gun when he was 17. I was able to contact him in new mexico. He’s now in his 70’s and got the gun from his dad when he was a kid; the dad got it in las vegas nm. Good barrel marking with “.. & sons” suggests this is a model 1875. Lack of wedge on ejctr. Hsg. Is typical of the rare model 1890, and it’s not uncommon to find 1875’s with the wedge ground down to simulate the rare 1890 configuration. However, the ejctr. Hsg. On this gun matches the rest of the gun about perfectly in condition, including significant nickel plating in the area that would have been ground down if this had been modified. - remington saa’s are found in a variety of configs from when shg used up spare parts. Fwiw, no assembly marks on barrel or ejctr. Hsg. Under the housing, as would be round on the model 1888. That’s what you got, make up the story that most pleases you for this gun. Police chief burton’s inscribed presentation smith & wesson model one & a half, new model revolver - . 32 rf - - excellent condition - 95% full plating, turned evenly milky with age. Excellent mech & grips, w/ wood grain opening a little. Period inscribed on right side of frame in script “presented to john l. Burton by w.A. Huff & co. In appreciation of his services as an efficient officer port jervis feb. 20th 1873”. Accompanied by photocopies of articles from the evening gazette of port jarvis ny, which identify burton as the chief of police, and report in laudatory fashion of his skills in solving crimes and protecting the citizenry of that region. In the case of the dastardly theft of the barrels of whiskey (the former barkeep did it), the gazette objectively observes “…we do not think it out of place to say the john barton is entitled to great credit for working up several very nice cases during the past year, in which he has given evidence of possessing unusual talent as a detective.... - (t)he citizens of port jarvis are greatly indebted to his efforts for the increased feeling of security for person and property. ” it’s quite unusual to have a historic presentation piece so well documented in the publications of the era. Most remarkable is a report of the presentation of this revolver quoting this exact inscription. S&w model one third issue revolver with rare original box & historical attribution to preacher’s wife. - . 22 rimfire - - fine condition. - barrel, cylinder & backstrap have mostly gone to patina, but the sides of the frame show as 97% original bright blue, for a nice appearance overall. Faded case colors, good mech, excellent rosewood grips. Includes a probably home-made white poplin sheath. Photocopy w/ gun shows a sign saying this “was carried by eliza walker, wife of robert walker, a traveling preacher in upstate new york”, with more info on the family. In a rare original box, black snowflake pattern w/ pale blue interior sides. The boxes for model ones are quite rare, and we’ve sold better condition ones for over $5000 empty. This one retains 80% of the black paper cover. Old paper or masking tape re-enforces the exterior corners of the lid, and the interior lid edges and exterior bottom edges. I suspect this tape could be removed, with a loss of most but not all the underlying black paper. What looked like a bad refinish turned out to be an old coat of paint that is fairly easy to rub off, with quite a bit of blue underneath, maybe 80-90% on frame & cylinder, 60-70% on barrel. Needs some more cleaning in crevices, but the stuff comes off with your fingernail or light rub of brass wool. Good mech, bore & smooth wood grips. Butt markings a bit faint, probably reworked by the military at some point. Latest style frame w/ rear sight groove relief & elimination of triggerguard step. With copy of a colt factory letter showing shipped july 2,1907, to john v. Varick co. Of manchester nh, 6”, . 38/c, blue, wood, with special features of “straight cylinder and large bore”, one of two guns in the shipment. - these special feature listings are a bit puzzling. My guess is that this late production gun may have been special ordered with wood grips, and specified as chambered for . 38 long colt, not . 38 special. This would require the earlier, slightly larger diameter bore, which would be obtainable by utilizing a leftover earlier military barrel. Likewise, the wood grips requirement would be easiest met by using leftover army grips. Steel parts are reported as phosphate finish with the frame anondized to match. Notable are special dull finish high impact nylon grips identical to those on the fbi contract guns. - one industry publication reported these as over-run production from a government contract. Win Model 92 Attrib To Kevin Costner, The Postman

Kevin coster, the postman, attributed winchester model 92 saddle ring carbine from stembridge armory, used in movies. - . 44 wcf; 20" barrel - - good condition. - dull red-brown paint over old bright reblue. Working. Sound wood w/ lots of usage marks. Legible markings include property house “rko / s211” and large stembridge “s”. Hang tag reads “the postman kevin costner / this gun was painted to appear rusty & oldbore is plugged with 40 yrs of accumulated black powder fouling. ” from that note, and the fact that repro 92’s would have been readily available when the postman was made if they had bought one specifically for that movie, it is likely this rifle also has a long history of usage in other movies. Also note the rko marking. Rko studios ceased production in 1957, suggesting this has been a hollywood gun for a long time. - robert mitchum starred in a string of rko westerns from 1944 to 1954. From a fast forward through the postman dvd (panned by critics, but a movie i really like), it appears this rifle is the one used to kill the bad guy in the final climatic fight. It would be interesting to check out some other costner flicks to see if the gun can be spotted elsewhere. Good markings include “j. J&w. Jr henr” center bottom lockplate & “phila / us” behind hammer, along with f, p, & us on left side barrel breech. Iron furniture. Working. Sound stock w/ usage & storage marks. - i’m far from expert on these. Best i can tell, this gun combines features of various early u.S. Pattern flintlocks, as sometimes found on contract makers’ arms. Primarily it is based on the harpers ferry 1795 pattern. Some sources report that some u.S. Muskets were shortened to this 33” barrel length by the gov’t, but i suspect this was shortened by someone else as the front barrel band does not engage the retention spring. Flintlock musket - . 72 cal. ; 42. 5” barrel. - - fair condition. - mottled dark gray metal; light pitting on barrel, heavier on lock. Barrel is rusted underneath the wood stock. On left rear of barrel top there what looks like a conjoined am under a crown, and a broad arrow over a script b. On left rear of barrel under the wood there’s “m.R. ”; “ii”, and some other unclear markings. Altho it doesn’t show in the picture, the head of the screw that holds the flint in the cock has a hole through it in addition to the slot. Bottom of trigger guard (not shown) has a teat on the front tang and a long rear tang with a rounded end. On the lock plate there was a crown over some script letter, possible a b or a j. Three barrel bands are missing; stock is inlet for the springs. Also appears that 3 pins to hold the barrel are missing. - stock much usage wear; crack at left side of tang; long losses along front of barrel channel. Albright signed full stock kentucky percussion rifle. Roman nose, lehigh county style, - . 52 cal. ; 33. 5” oct. Barrel. - - about good condition - dark barrel has some areas of roughness. Crisp signature in fancy period script (which can be difficult to read is “h (or ‘w’) f (or ‘j’) albright”. Lockplate has some deep pitting, with some simple engraving still visible, not fit well into stock recess, so doubtless replaced. Hammer is deeply pitted (politely described as “textured” by previous cataloger, i sorta like that, may have to start using it... It does sound much nicer, doesn’t it? ) brass furniture includes 4 piece patch box, some loss of brass at toe of buttplate. Sound stock has some attractive striping which is apparently only skin deep, as it disappears immediately in the area around the patch box that appears to be lightly sanded. – possibly a conversion from flintlock. Tumbler has a cleanout screw, original ramrod with brass mushroom head and a steel body covered with stacked leather washers. Barrel has a dirty bore with deep 12 groove rifling, tiny fixed sights, and a bayonet lug on right side. Very good full length walnut stock had dings & usage marks, with 90% finish. Stylized brass nosecap with integral ramrod guide and swivel base. Stock is secured to the barrel with two wedges. The stock has a checkered wrist and a deep cheekpiece with a relief carved daisy at the rear. Very good mech. - ok, i’m not sure exactly what a boar rifle should look like, but was told this is one, and am perfectly willing to believe it. Looks like that big hole in the end should get the job done, & i guess the bayo lug is in the same tradition as european hunting swords. Whatever it is, it’s a pretty nifty perc. Rare Colt Berdan U.S. Commercial Model 1868, S/n 2

Very rare colt berdan u.S. Commercial model 1868, serial number 2 - . 45 cal. ; 32. 5” barrel. - - fine condition. - crisp metal; top of barrel & action has aged to dark mottled plum, with bottom of barrel under the wood retaining about all of the soft blue. Very rare english language barrel address is very light & only partially visible: “colt’s pt. Fire **** co. , hartford ct”. The number 2 is stamped strong & distinct at the rear of the bottom of the barrel. Fine mech & bore. Sound stock has numerous small nicks & dings, with nearly all finish remaining. Designed by berdan of civil war sharpshooters fame, a sale of 30,000 of these rifles to russia helped keep colt afloat in the lean years after the civil war. - these contract guns were made with cyrillic russian language markings on the barrel. Those are very rare in this country, but this is not one of those. A very berdans few were made as production or design rifles with english language markings, and this is one of those. It is estimate that fewer than 100 of these were made. Standard chambering for the russian purchase was . 42 berdan, with at least some of the english marked guns known to be in . 45-70. - s/n this rifle has a bore that seems to be correct for . 45 caliber, and was sold to me as . 45-70. However, neither . 45-70 nor . 42 russian cartridges seem to chamber in this rifle. Assuming it is indeed serial number 2, perhaps as a pre-production piece it is chambered for some other round? Winchester Model 1894 rifle beautifully engraved & carved. - .30 WCF - 19" half octagon half round barrel; button. magazine. - Highly decorated excellent plus condition as refinished after embellishment. - Deep relief engraving of metal & carving of stock expertly and artistically done, with 98-99%+ nickel plating remaining, showing just enough small flakes & bubbles on engraved edges to suggest legitimate age. - Trigger & hammer gold plated, with engraved skull & crossbones on reshaped hammer spur. Full engraving on receiver, reshaped large loop lever, bolt, & rear octagon portion of barrel. - Mountain lion on right sideplate; stag on left; all surrounded w/ scroll pattern engraving. Expert deep relief stock carving includes basketweave background on wrist & forend, surmounted by ornate floral scroll. Large sculpted 3D ramshead on butt of pistol grip, and large Mexican eagle & snake on right side stock. Light handling marks to light colored wood, w/ cheekpiece. Winchester John Kusmit engraved model 1894

Winchester John Kusmit engraved model 1894 lever action carbine rifle - .30-30 - Condition is excellent plus - Scroll engraved frame, barrel, lever, barrel bands, and tangs. Gold inlaid panel scene of a stag on both sides of frame, and gold inlaid borders. About 100% post-engraving blue; a few very small spots of very tiny pits under finish. - Deluxe fancy grained wood (5X?) with checkered and incised scroll carved forend & wrist. Reported as customized and signed by John Kusmit in 1955; I don't see the signature, but I did not disassemble. Tiny MF stamped forward of trigger. Very similar to, and only slightly less ornate than, the Kusmit engraved 1894 in the Cody Firearms Museum (s/n 2,500,000; BBHC Object I.D.# 1988.8.7). Winchester Model 1866 lever action carbine antq

Winchester Model 1866 lever action carbine antq - .44 cal. - 20" round barrel. - Metal very good; wood appears fine to excellent. - A handsome yellowboy, with some possible refurbishing. Generally smooth metal on barrel & mag tube, with an even mottled plum patina; cleaned a bit at the very crisp barrel address, with 2nd line double struck, suggesting that these markings may have been freshened. There is bit of light pitting on the barrel at the edges of the forend, and on the hammer, barrel band, lever, trigger, and loading gate. Light patina to brass frame & buttplate. - Strong frame markings include "77" at upper left corner, and "D S" after s/n on tang. Strong rifling w/ numerous areas of pitting in bore. A pin in the bolt tends to slip out & tie up the action, but other than that, functioning. The wood has some scattered dings & light scratches. The s/n is stamped on the stock in the cutout for the top tang. Forend grain has some wave in it on left side. The wood condition is so nice for this model and age, that I initially suspected possible replacement or refinish on condition grounds alone. Winchester Model 1894 lever action carbine rifle - 25-35 - 20" round barrel. - Excellent condition. - Had been near mint with a few light scratches on left side of frame. However recent poor storage has resulted in 3 to 4 heavy rust spots on right side of barrel, and one on left side of mag. - We'll try to clean those up a bit w/ bronze wool, but won't go very far; I expect there will be some roughness left. Winchester Model 1894 lever action saddle ring carbine antq - .38-55 - 20" round barrel. - Condition is very good plus. - Barrel & mag tube a mixture of dull blue & plum patina, maybe half finish remains, with a couple of surface dings. Frame mostly gray patina, with some light roughness, and blue remaining around saddle ring. - Generally sound stock shows usage marks, with hairline cracks coming forward from buttplate. Winchester Model 1894 lever action saddle ring carbine with special features. - .32 WS - 20" rapid taper barrel; button magazine. - About excellent condition. - Barrel 97%, receiver 90% blue; some scattered scratches & dings, especially on frame & bolt; small area of pitting at left rear frame; faded case colors on lever. Minor usage marks to nicely grained select wood pistol grip stock. - Hairline crack at tang, 1" chip gone on the right side below the trigger; most varnish remains. Over 80% dulling blue, with nice faded case color on frame & lever. - Left side of barrel had developed some spots of fairly heavy rust from recent poor storage; some of this has been removed, but some roughness remains.
