OLIVER CORBETT OZARKS PAINTING FRISCO 'OKLAHOMAN' PASSENGER CAR An original oil on panel painting circa 1930 by Springfield, Missouri artist Oliver Corbett (1886 - 1969), signed lower right and titled Springfield. Corbett is known to have worked as a muralist and his commissions included a series of 12 murals done for St. Louis - San Francisco Railway. According to Ann Atkin, daughter of J. Paul Knox, chief mechanical officer for the Frisco, this painting hung in the Frisco passenger car known as the OKLAHOMAN which ran from Kansas City to Tulsa but was later rerouted between St. Louis to Oklahoma City. The actual size of the work is 24 x 18 inches, and the framed size is 31 x 25 inches. Written on back twice is 'Okla City'. Excellent original condition. |
