Serial no. 666, 10-inch round barrel, lock marked RICHMOND and 1813 at tail, VIRGINIA forward of hammer. Engraved hammer; lock converted to percussion. Varnished walnut stock with brass mountings. Hickory ramrod with main ramrod ferrule, but no additional ramrod ferrules. Sold together with a copy of William A. Albaugh III 1908-1983: His Life and Writings.
Condition: Very good. Gray patina to steel, with light pitting; mellow patina to brass. Varnished stock with nicks, wear and cracks; splinters from fore-end.
Notes: Pictured in William A. Albaugh, Edward N. Simmons, CONFEDERATE ARMS (1957), p. 39, plate 51. Quoting from Albaugh and Simmons: "This pistol was probably made up by some gunsmith at the start of the war to help arm the Confederacy." The late William A. Albaugh and Edward N. Notes: The quality of engraving and inscription are not up to the Winchester standard as set by such craftsmen as the Ulrichs. However, the patina appears to be authentic, and the engraving of the period. Gold inlaid barrel bands are rare on Winchester Model 1873 firearms.
