1917-1918 Production WWI US Army Springfield Model 1911 Pistol with Colt Slide

Our Assessment: This old warhorse has a frame produced by Springfield Armory in 1914 mated to a 1917-1918 vintage Colt Model of 1911 U.S. Army slide. The other WWI-vintage parts and parkerized finish may indicate that the pistol went through an arsenal refurbishment at some point during its long life, appearing to have been performed some time ago. If you're looking for a 1911 that has gone places and done things, this looks like the one for you!

Make: Springfield Armory Frame, Colt Slide

Model: 1911 U.S. Army

Serial Number: 78751

Year of Manufacture: 1978-1918

Caliber: .45 ACP

Action Type: Single Action Semi-Automatic Detachable Magazine Fed

Barrel Length: 5"

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade fixed to the front of the slide. The rear sight is a "U"-notch dovetailed to the rear of the slide.

Grip Configuration & Condition: The grips are double diamond checkered walnut. The grips have moderate handling wear. There are some nicks, dings, and tool marks around the screw heads. The checkering is generally well defined. There are no chips or cracks. The grips rate in about Very Good overall condition as refinished.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Likely Arsenal Refurbished

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright and the rifling is sharp. There is some light erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 8 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 40% of its current metal finish. There is evenly scattered wear and discoloration. There are some scattered light nicks and scratches. The action shows operational wear. The barrel hood has a distinct groove behind the "HP" monogram and there is an odd circular relief-cut in the firing pin plate that meets the hole for the firing pin. The screw heads are tool marked with strong slots. The markings are generally clear, the rampant colt on the slide is worn. Overall, this handgun rates in about Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a more thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with a single two-tone magazine, the floorplate appears to have been reinstalled.

CA LEGALITY: C&R: YES, CA PPT: NO.
