Item Description: Translate description
Joel Feree (1731-1801) was killed and scalped by Indians in 1801. He made barrels and guns during the Revolutionary War for the Committee of Safety of Pennsylvania. He worked in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, during the Revolutionary War and later moved to western Pennsylvania, where he continued his work as a gunsmith. The octagon barrel features a swamped muzzle. Modern replaced lock. Brass furniture includes a 4-piece brass patchbox with daisy finial and convex lid. Figured tiger maple stock of Lancaster form with incise carved c-scrolls behind cheekpiece. Replaced wood ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel shows a dark surface with scattered heavy pitting. Lock is a modern replacement and sideplate is also modern. Back of triggerguard tang has a small piece replaced. Stock has significant restoration, including but not limited to the front 32" off forend and large pieces around lock.
