Historical medal, insignia, and photograph grouping of United States Marine Corps Major General Gregon A. Williams (1898-1968) serving from 1917 until he retired in 1954 while serving as Inspector General of the Marine Corps. Williams served in World War I, the Dominican Campaign, the Yangtze Patrol, the Nicaraguan Campaign, World War II (captured in 1941, exchanged and served in the Battle of Okinawa), and the Korean War (Battle of Inchon, the Second Battle of Seoul and the Battle of Chosin Reservoir). This historic collection includes two display boards displaying Williams' medals and insignia. The first board displays; 1.) Navy Cross (wrap brooch). 2.) Legion of Merit with two gold stars and "V" device (wrap brooch). 3.) Bronze Star with "V" device (wrap brooch). 4.) USMC Good Conduct medal with rim number "No 20311". 5.) USMC Good Conduct medal named on reverse "No 20311 Gregon A. Williams, 1st Enlistment 1917-1920". 6.) Marine Corps Expeditionary medal with two stars and rim numbered "M. No. 8981" (wrap brooch). 7.) World War I Victory medal with "West Indies" bar. 8.) USMC Yangtze Service medal with rim number "M.No.15" (wrap brooch). 9.) USMC Second Nicaraguan Campaign medal with rim number "M.No.2984". 10.) USMC China Service medal. 11.) American Defense medal with "Base" bar. 12.) Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal with star. 13.) American Campaign medal. 14.) World War II Victory medal. 15.) USMC Occupation Service medal. 16.) Korean Service medal with 2-stars. 17.) United Nations Korean Service medal. 18.) Nicaragua Cross of Valor with ribbon bar. 19.) Miniature Dominican Medal for Military Merit with ribbon bar. 20.) Bar for Presidential Unit Citation with star. Second board presents; 1.) Four Eagle, Globe and Anchor insignia (enlisted hat, officer's hat, officer's collar pair). 2.) Three marksman's badges (Expert Rifleman, Expert Pistol, and US Marine marksman). 3.) Collar badge for aide to Brigadier General (Williams served as an aide to famed Marine Corps General Smedley Butler). 4.) Aiguillette signifying Aide to a Brigadier/Major General. 5.) Fourrag?re of the US 6th Marines, 2nd Division. 6.) Fourrag?re of the Nicaraguan National Guard. 7.) Five buttons and insignia of the Nicaraguan National Guard. 8.) Shoulder patch of the 2nd Marine Division. 9.) One small and one large rank insignia of every rank that Williams held in his military career (2nd Lieutenant, 1st Lieutenant, Captain, Major. Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, Brigadier General and Major General). Medal and insignia accompanied by framed bust photographic portrait of WIlliams as a Brigadier General wearing uniform with full ribbon bars. Photograph measures 9.5" x 7.5" (sight) with frame measuring 16" x 13". Group is further accompanied by frame having three photographs of Williams as a Colonel (1) and as a Brigadier General (2) dated 1950/51. Frame measures 13.5" x 24".
