Colt Model 1900 Second Army Contract Semi Auto Pistol

Lot # 51 (Sale Order: 51 of 824)

serial #1568, 38 ACP, 6” barrel with a very good bore showing strong evident rifling and some minor frosting within the grooves. The metal surfaces retain about 98-99% later, Colt factory blue, likely from the time of the factory conversion from sight safety (the "K" factory return mark is on the right triggerguard bow). The hammer retains nice, vibrant color case-hardening and the trigger strong fire temper blue. The checkered walnut grips appear original but currently enjoy a later, somewhat heavy coating of finish, their screws retain very nice fire temper blue. The markings all remain fully legible with a crisp left side “U.S.”, and the aforementioned “K”. A single correct magazine is included marked with the patent date on its floorplate, now a bright patina with some scattered oxidation staining. The included factory letter confirms shipment to the U.S. Government, Springfield Armory, in the second shipment of the second contract, in January of 1901 with 50 other pistols. Really an excellent, as factory-refurbished, example overall. (37027-3){C&R}

German Lp.08 Luger Pistol By DWM

Lot # 52 (Sale Order: 52 of 824)

serial #8550, 9 mm, 8” barrel with a very good plus to near excellent bore which shows only the beginnings of some very light frosting, more prominent nearer the breech. The metal surfaces retain about 95% original fading blue, the loss due to even fading and some toning to pewter on the high edges and contact points. The straw parts rate very near excellent with only some light fading noted on the takedown lever, right side of trigger and leading edge of magazine release. All of the numbered parts are matching including the un-grooved firing pin. The checkered walnut grips rate very good plus showing only some very minor flattening of the points, the right grip with some very minor handling marks; they are stamp-numbered to the gun. Included is a single bright-bodied wooden base magazine, numbered to the gun and rating about excellent. Really a very nice example overall awaiting only an equally nice artillery holster-board-stock rig. (37017-6) {C&R}

German Model 1900 American Eagle Luger Semi-Auto Pistol By DWM

Lot # 53 (Sale Order: 53 of 824)

serial #47956, 30 Luger, 4 3/4" barrel with a very good bore that has strong rifling but has some very light pitting in the grooves. The metal surfaces retain between 85-90% original blue, the frame has a few light impact marks and some light silvering along the edges. The barrel is lightly fading to gray and has some fine pinprick pitting present. There are some tiny specks of light surface oxidation and some light brown patina visible as well. The trigger, takedown lever, mag release, safety and spring retain most of their original straw color. The parts appear to be all matching and the "DWM" maker's mark, the (crown) over "B,U,G" proofs and the Federal Eagle crest remain crisp. Pistol is equipped with a set of checkered walnut grips that are likely the originals and rate excellent with only a few lightly flattened points. The leading edge of the frame is marked "GERMANY" but no other importer markings are present. The pistol appears to function correctly including the grip safety and included is a single, unmarked, wood based magazine. A near excellent condition example of these terrific Luger pistols that besides being very collectible should make a decent shooter. (47008-7) {C&R}

British Underlever Double Shotgun By D. Brebner Of Darlington

Lot # 54 (Sale Order: 54 of 824)

serial #717, 12 ga., 30" damascus barrels with bright excellent bores. This is an interesting shotgun utilizing Thomas Woodward's patent No.651 of 1876. The firing mechanism consists of a plunger with striker around which is a coil spring, both of which are enclosed in a tube mounted to the inside of the lockplate. This system is very much like a bolt in a bolt action rifle. The outward appearance is very much like a sidelock but with only two pins showing. The gun cocks on the full movement of the underlever and features cocking indicators and an unusual pivoting safety rather than a sliding safety. The barrels retain a nice restored brown finish with damascus pattern showing through. The action and locks are engraved in very near full coverage with scroll and "D. BREBNER" in riband on either side and have been lightly cleaned and are now an even silver gray color. The shotgun is beautifully restocked in a nice grade of English walnut which retains all of its original oil finish and shows crisp expertly cut checkering. The gun has a 14 1/2" length of pull over a checkered butt with drops of 1 1/4" and 2". An interesting antique provincial British double with an unusual mechanism. (17034-28) {ANTIQUE}

Lot # 55 (Sale Order: 55 of 824)

serial #14686, 10 bore, 30" damascus barrels with very good bores that show just a little light pitting mostly just ahead of the chambers. These shotguns were the most expensive items in the Colt catalog when they were made between 1878 and 1889. This shotgun has special engraving which is listed on the included factory letter as "Factory Engraved: Yes $85.00 worth of engraving". This engraving consists of tight scroll on lockplates, frame, hammers, recoil shields, top lever, triggerguard and forend metal. The condition of the shotgun is very nice with the barrels retaining about 90% original brown finish which is just thinning slightly and shows strong damascus pattern their entire lengths. The action and locks retain about 60% original color case-hardened finish which is most vivid on locks and fading to a smooth gray brown patina on belly. The checkered round knob pistolgrip buttstock and forend are of nicely figured English walnut and rate excellent with 90% original finish remaining and with just light wear to the checkering. The factory letter lists the chokes as "left 300 right 300" and shows this as a single gun shipment to Hibbard, Spencer and Bartlett on April 3, 1883. Overall a very fine and rare high grade Colt double Hammergun. (17063-36) {ANTIQUE}

The top rib of barrels is marked "CHARLES DALY DAMASCUS BARRELS" and each lock is engraved "CHARLES DALY" with just simple border engraving. The barrels are marked on flats with "836" with the only other marking being small intials "CK" on barrels just behind forend lug, the watertable is marked only "836". The barrels retain about 90% evenly thinning original brown finish with strong damascus pattern showing their entire length. The action and locks retain about 95% original color case-hardened finish which remains quite vivid in most areas and toning to German silver color in a couple areas. The triggerguard is also color case hardened and retains a good deal of faded original color with just the short tang being gray along the pistolgrip. A. H. Fox Be Grade Boxlock Double

Lot # 57 (Sale Order: 57 of 824)

serial #16830, 12 ga., 28" Krupp steel barrels choked cylinder and skeet with bright about very good bores showing remnants of some very light pitting. The barrels likely started life at 30" as they have been neatly, slightly shortened (the bead slightly askew but is easy to rectify). Barrels retain 98% of a quality rust blue while the frame exhibits 99% restored color case-hardening. The frame is embellished with the early "B" style engraving with a standing bird on each side with simple scroll and stylized borders; the triggerguard is similar. The nicely figured English walnut, capped pistolgrip buttstock, and splinter forearm rate excellent as refinished showing only a tiny little hairline crack in the bottom of the forearm and some ever-so-slight chipping at the back of the top tang; the checkering is crisp as neatly chased. The length of pull to the original grooved hard rubber butt is 14 1/8” with drops of 1 5/8” and 2 3/4”. The gun features double triggers, ejectors, and automatic safety and seems to function well mechanically with tight lock-up and robust ejectors. The arm is Wright-stocked full-length military style, in English walnut, and rates about excellent with only minor dings and few handling marks. It features a left side rounded cheekpiece and shows checkered panels at pistolgrip and mid-stock with a flawless wrap-around forearm pattern. All the checkering is accented by handsome carved floral and foliate scroll, this further set-off by some light background stippling. The pistolgrip features an engraved blued steel cap and the butt has a nice checkered steel trapdoor plate for a 13 3/4” length of pull. There is a gold oval monogram plate along the toeline engraved “A.D.L.” as the rifle was once in the collection of Mr. Arthur D. Liedesdorf; even the rear sling swivel stud shows a nice Kornbrath-engraved flower. The arm came with a 1 1/4” military rifle sling with loosely engraved brass hooks, however the original sling was deteriorated rather badly and Mr. Benenson had Turner fabricate a new sling and rivet the original brass hooks to it. Additionally, to compliment this stunning arm, Mr. Benenson commissioned G&H to have a 1905 bayonet engraved to loosely match the rifle, this was done by Joe Bayer for G&H, the scales were checkered, and the metal polished bright. A smooth brown leather garrison scabbard is included and the bayonet is 1911 dated. The rifle’s serial number was removed during the matting and engraving process, but the serial number atop the bolt provides a clue to the guns original serial number and, diligent research by Mr. Benenson found rifle number 1267453, listed by Springfield Research Service as a National Match rifle, sold through DCM, to Seymour Griffin on December 17th, 1926. But the story continues! Mr. Benenson felt that a moose standing in a pond had no business on a martial arm and commissioned another floorplate to be engraved with eagle and martial panoply with flags, drum, canteen, mortar, rifles etc. in a scrollwork surround, done by engraver Martin Rabeno. The work is indeed outstanding and looks as much at home on the rifle as the original floorplate (perhaps more-so). Really an outstanding one-of-a-kind arm engraved and stocked by masters of their respective crafts. Engraved sling, bayonet and spare floorplate all as added bonuses and truly completing this amazing package. (37022-12){C&R}[Mark Benenson Collection]

Lot # 71 (Sale Order: 71 of 824)

serial #663373, 44 WCF, 20” barrel with a bright excellent bore. The barrel and magazine tube retain 80% original blue finish with some thinning in select areas and silvering at the muzzle as well as some scattered surface oxidation. The lever and hammer have toned to a dark brown patina with no remnants of any case-hardened color left. The saddlering has rubbed on the receiver over the years leaving a ring shaped section of bare metal. The plain straight grip walnut buttstock with special order shotgun butt and forend rate very good to near excellent overall with some typical light dings and handling marks; the buttstock has been sanded and refinished. Featured are a standard blade front sight and ladder style carbine rear sight as well as a Lyman adjustable tang peep sight.
