Pair Of Aya No. 1 Consecutively Numbered Sidelock Shotguns

serial #308752 and #308753, 12 ga, 26" chopper lump barrels choked modified and improved modified in both sets with bright excellent bores showing a couple of very faint dents in both. The barrels retain 95% original blue having a few light scattered scratches with some muzzle wear and showing rub marks where the forearms attach. They have plain ribs and double beads and are engraved with scroll for 1 1/2" from the breech with gold numbers 1 and 2 applied. The frames and locks are profusely engraved with rose and scroll and exhibit 98% vibrant case colors showing just some fading on the edges of the frame. The top lever and triggerguard retain 98% blue and share the same detailed engraving as the rest of the metal work. The figured round knob pistolgrip stocks have had the combs raised by the addition of a spacer within the original wood. The work has been professionally done and very well blended into the existing stocks and rate very good as refinished in oil showing a few handling marks and a very thin crack located at the upper tang on number 2 and a small chip at the same spot on number 1. The splinter forearms rate very good as well having light handling marks over a slightly thin oil finish, they have push button releases in engraved escutcheons. The stocks have gold monogram ovals which are un-engraved and each gun is fitted with a 1" leather recoil pads that are dry and starting to crack. Both guns have essentially identical dimensions of 13 1/4" length of pull with drops of 1 7/16" and 2 1/4" and 1/4" cast off. The guns have numerous features include single selective triggers, ejectors, automatic safety, hand detachable locks, and cocking indicators. Included with this pair is a quality leather hard case in good condition that is lined in red baize which exhibits some light soiling and a few minor wear spots. This is a unique pair of guns considering the features and would have been at the top end of the AYA models. (177268-27-28)

The metal surfaces on both barrels retain 98-99% original blue finish displaying just a few very light handling marks. The frame is embellished with the standard "D" style of engraving with a setter on the left side, a pointer on the right, and flying pheasants on the bottom all surrounded by scroll and acanthus leaf engraving. It exhibits 90% fading case color and the triggerguard displays 95% blue showing similar embellishment. The checkered walnut straight grip buttstock with well defined dropper points rates excellent displaying a few light handling marks. The forearm is excellent overall having crisp checkering. The forearm has a lever release and the standard decorative metal tip and a case-hardened scroll engraved lever release. The buttstock has an un-engraved monogram oval inlaid into the toeline and a skeleton buttplate which provides a length of pull of 14 1/8" with drops of 1 1/4" and 2". The gun is equipped with a single selective trigger, ejectors, and an automatic safety. Included is a leather luggage case with zippered canvas cover in excellent condition lined in green felt. The gun features its original hooded front sight, a two leaf express rear sight and an added Pachmayr low swing side mount that is inlayed into the stock. Rare 6" Barreled Smith & Wesson Second Model Russian Revolver

serial #33074, 44 Russian, 6" barrel with a lightly oxidized and pitted bore. This beautiful commercial second model Russian has fine condition and a rare 6" barrel length. The barrel has worn to plum brown with strong strips of original blue finish in the flutes below the rib and other protected areas. The cylinder is brown with a thinning mottled mix of original blue and brown in the flutes. The frame has amazingly strong original blue finish with about 70% remaining and the gripstraps are flaking to plum along with lightly thinning finish on the remaining surfaces. The metal surfaces have some light scratches, dents and dings. The checkered factory grips rate very good with some scattered dents and scratches but only light wear on the diamond points. The grips have correct matching serial number; and the frame, latch, barrel and cylinder have correct matching assembly numbers. The grip frame is equipped with a lanyard loop and the famous Russian "spur" is present. The sideplate is engraved with a large crown / M and cylinder has British crown / CP proof marks and view marks. The butt is marked with the letters "SH" in a diamond next to the serial number for the period distributor Schuyler Hartley Graham. This top-break still times and locks up correctly. The metal surfaces retain about 97% original polished nickel finish with some scattered light oxidation blemishes and bubbling in the protected areas of the barrel, cylinder and frame, as well as light scratches and a small area of worn finish by the rear sight on the top strap. The checkered Pachmayr rubber Presentation grips with gold Colt medallions are in excellent condition. The revolver has a satin nickel finished adjustable rear sight and ramp front sight, and a polished nickel plated hammer and trigger. This is a very nice example of a Python for the collector or the advanced revolver shooter. (87297-2)

The revolver retains about 99% original blue finish with no turn ring showing on the cylinder. The beautiful case-hardened colors on the frame are a robust mix of straws, blues and purple. The checkered black eagle plastic grips are in like new condition. The grips, grip frame and cylinder are correctly numbered to the gun. The revolver includes a two piece "Stagecoach" box that rates about very good with light edge wear and the front cover edge of the printed wrap starting to separate. The original smooth walnut grips rate very good with light handling marks and faded original finish, the interior panels are both incise carved "RLA" and are numbered to gun in white wax crayon. Gorgeous Factory Engraved And Cased Smith & Wesson Model 29-2 Revolver

serial #N429590, 44 Magnum, 6 1/2" pinned heavy barrel with an excellent bore. A superb factory engraved 1977 era gun in wonderful condition. The revolver has been covered in beautiful Class A scroll engraving with shaded background. The revolver retains 99% plus original blue finish with the only blemish a faint turn ring on the cylinder. This N frame is equipped with full target hammer and trigger and they both retain vigorous case-hardened colors. The smooth factory coco bolo target grips with silver S&W medallions are in like new condition. The revolver includes a factory Mahogany presentation case with excellent condition blue flocking and a few faint handling marks on the outside. Also included are a cleaning rod, bore brush, bore mop, screw driver and paperwork. A factory letter dated September 15, 2006, indicates this revolver was shipped with engraving on October 21, 1977, to Warner Hardware, Minneapolis Minnesota. The revolver originally shipped with checkered goncalo alves target grips. At the time of the letter historian Roy Jinks could not say if the engraving was in-house or contractual but a series of e-mails by the current owner resulted in a handwritten notation indicating Mr. Jinks purported it was the work of Denise Thirion. The e-mail exchange is not provided. With the high interest in Smith & Wesson revolvers this is a great opportunity to own a beautifully engraved gun that appears unfired. (87122-2)

This is a neat rifle specially designed for the F.B.I in the later 30's to handle a .30 Remington cartridge loaded to the ballistics of the Winchester .351 cartridge. Special features on this F.B.I. Model 81 include: smooth barrel jacket with the rear sight holes, stacked receiver markings with Remington script and serial number below trade name, Lyman 41R rear peep sight mounted on the left side of the receiver, standard dovetail with special tall blade front sight made for use with the Lyman 41R sight and increased stock drop due to raising the peep sight. The metal surfaces retain about 95% evenly thinning original blue with scattered sporadic minor scuffs and scratches. The plain walnut pistolgrip stock and forearm rate excellent; butt is fitted with a checkered steel buttplate. The breechblock and tang retain equal brilliant crisp original color case-hardened finish. The walnut Super Grade pistolgrip Monte Carlo stock with wraparound checkering and ebony forend rates near excellent with a couple minor light blemishes and features inlet swivel studs, unmarked standard grade floorplate, plain grip cap, inlaid oval brass monogram plate and a period unmarked solid rubber recoil pad. Installed is a Lyman Alaskan All-Weather rifle scope with post and crosshair reticle and clear optics in a Griffin & Howe sidemount scope base and rings. The barrel retains about 70% original blue finish with high edge wear, random pinprick pits, slight oxidation blemishes and the right side of the barrel has flaked to a brownish-plum color. The frame is pleasing, smooth ochre with strong edges and few handling marks. The hammer has strong case-hardened colors present but the trigger is mostly pewter. The smooth rosewood grips rate very good to excellent with light handling wear. The left panel has what appears to be a light touch up of varnish at the top but age and time make it difficult to tell with certainty. The barrel, extractor and grips are correctly numbered to the frame. Barrel to frame fit is slightly loose, the barrel screw has strong Nitre blue and the pistol is still functional. Imperfect Brown Manufacturing Company Southerner Deringer

serial #9927, 41 RF, 2 1/2" octagon barrel with a moderately oxidized and pitted bore. This is a very good condition Southerner marked as "Imperfect." The word Imperfect is stamped in an arch around the hammer screw on the left side of the receiver. The barrel has light pitting, dings and oxidation blemishes present with the remainder having worn to plum but considerable original blue finish is mixed in. The frame is ochre with scant handling marks. The trigger and hammer are gunmetal gray with traces of case-hardened colors. The smooth rosewood grips are not correctly numbered to the gun (#736 & 9923) but rate very good to excellent with a few light handling marks. Brown Manufacturing Company "Soapy Smith" Southerner Deringer

serial #6812, 41 RF, 2 1/2" octagon barrel with a lightly oxidized and frosted bore. This very good condition brass frame Southerner is purported to belong to 19th century conman Jefferson Randolf "Soapy" Smith who met his demise in Alaska plying his trade. The barrel is a brown patina with scattered pitting. The frame has tarnished to a dark bronze color with scattered light handling marks and fine casting defects. The hammer and trigger have worn to brown with oxidation blemishes and pinprick pitting. The smooth rosewood grips rate very good with light handling marks and four "notches" cut into the right panel. The barrel and grips are numbered to the gun but the extractor is not. The loading notch no longer functions and the full cock notch, while operational, requires an unusually heavy pull to release. The barrel to frame fit is loose with varying degrees of slot damage present on the screws. Mr. Smith got his nickname from a favorite scam of his, where he would buy boxes of 5 cent bar soap, set up a small table and announce to all in earshot that they had the chance of winning $20.00, $50.00 or even more for a few dollars investment. As he spoke he would wrap several of the bars with twenty dollar or larger bills in front of his hapless victims add them to the pile of soap bars and start selling them for $5.00 or more each. He would remove these seeded bars from the pile with sleight of hand or mark them for his "shills" to buy. His "suckers" would eagerly buy or bid for them hoping for a quick profit especially, when the shills in the audience would proclaim how they "found" money in the bar they "bought". After selling the last bar he would quickly pack up and leave with only him and his gang having profited. "Soapy" was a true crime boss of his time and he and his gang caused so much trouble that members of the Skagway "Committee of 101" (vigilantes) took action. One report indicates he was killed on July 8, 1898 by members of the "Committee of 101" in the shootout in Skagway, where he used a Winchester rifle to kill vigilante Frank Reid before another Committee member gunned him down; but others claim it was at the hand of a U.S Marshall. Except for the killing of vigilante Frank Reid on the same day of his demise none of the documentation provided indicates any gunfights by "Soapy" that would support the four notches in this pistol but considering his background anything is possible. In a letter written by J. Cornell, he purports to have taken the Southerner off the body of "Soapy" Smith after the shooting along with two $20.00 eagles. He passed it on to John Jack McPhee on April 8, 1930. In his letter to McPhee he explained how his cabin was flooded by overflow from a river and badly rusted this gun. A small binder with letters purportedly from Mr. Cornell and other owners is included. The binder also has some "Soapy" Smith background, a chronological list of all owners before Mr. Riggs and period photos of the Skagway area and Smith. Rare Winchester Model 1886 Lifeline Smooth Bore Lever Action Rifle

serial #154429A, 45-70 Government, 14 1/2" smooth bore octagon barrel with near excellent bore exhibiting slight frosting. This interesting rifle has been lightly refurbished and retains surprisingly strong original condition. The receiver, lever, forend cap and crescent buttplate are pewter with traces of the original blue found in the protected areas as well as scattered light pinprick pitting, faint oxidation staining and handling marks. The barrel and magazine retains strong original blue finish in the protected areas with the remainder wearing to a smoky gray plus scattered light oxidation blemishes, pinprick pitting and handling marks. The buttstock and forend have later added varnish and rate good to very good. There are scattered light to moderate dents, scratches, flaking finish, a few small checks by the wrist. A tiny chip of wood is missing where the wrist meets the tang on both sides. The barrel has a dovetail cut for a rear sight but no sight is present and there are no provisions for a front sight. Markings remain crisp with the barrel caliber stamped 45-70 and the action is excellent. This specialty rifle includes a letter from the Cody Firearms Museum Records Office that indicates this rifle was part of order #871647 and was shipped to Wm. Winchester Model 1886 Special Order Lever Action Rifle

serial #5999, 40-82 W.C.F., 26" octagon barrel with a frosted bore. This 1887 made rifle is equipped with a set trigger and remains in very good condition. The metal surfaces are pewter with a few traces of original blue finish in the protected areas along with scattered light dents, dings, oxidation blemishes and pinprick pitting. The full length magazine has strong blue color with a mottled mix of silver and brown present. The buttstock rates fair to good with light blemishes and a number of repairs. The arched portion of the toe was repaired with light synthetic resin to fill in a large surface chip plus several other dents or holes were also filled in with the same light colored synthetic resin on the left side of the stock. Two opposing holes on the each side of the wrist were filled with wood, and several checks and cracks are present. The forend has over a dozen small holes or dents that have been filled with same synthetic resin plus there are several cracks and checks, and light handling marks. This rifle is equipped with a set trigger that does not work and requires professional attention. This rifle features a No. 21 style front sight with brass blade and a No. 22 rear sight with serrations on the leaf. (87249-171) {ANTIQUE}
U.S. Smith & Wesson Model 1875 First Model Schofield Revolver

serial #1390 all matching, 45 S&W, 7" ribbed round barrel with a bright excellent bore. This is a very fine Schofield revolver. The revolver shows proper "US" marking on butt and shows a faint cartouche on left grip panel. The condition is quite nice with the barrel retaining about 40% original blue finish with the balance bearing a pleasing smooth brown patina. The cylinder retains nice original blue in flutes with the balance being an even and smooth brown patina. The frame retains about 75 - 80% bright original blue finish with most loss on the straps which are mostly a smooth and even brown patina. The barrel catch and corresponding lug on topstrap retain 90% original oil quenched case-hardened finish and the hammer shows a good deal of original faded color case-hardened finish. The two-piece walnut grips rate about very good with even wear and little original finish remaining and they remain quite smooth with just a few light impact marks on the butt. The cartouche on bottom of left grip remains visible although quite light. It is unusual to find a Schofield with this much bright blue finish. This is a fine investment quality example.
