Wonderful Engraved and Gold-Plated Moore's Patent Front Loading Revolver

Lot # 1 (Sale Order: 1 of 655)

serial #8206, 32 Teat-fire, 3 1/4'' barrel with a very good bore showing a few small patches of light pitting and strong rifling throughout. This attractive revolver is almost entirely covered with expert foliate scrollwork, punch-dot shading and a lovely etched cylinder scene featuring finely-detailed game dog amidst foliate flourishes and a bounding buck in a forest. The embellishment along the cylinder and barrel are in relief with a finely-stippled matte background and there is a small Federal style shield behind the hammer. The revolver retains about 97% original gold finish showing just some minor thinning along the hammer and at the muzzle with scattered fine scratches and a few freckles. The barrel address and patent information on both the cylinder and underneath the loading gate are crisp and clear. The screw heads and wedge retain vibrant fire blue while the trigger has toned mostly to gray patina showing some streaks of fire blue on the sides. The smooth antique ivory grips are pencil-numbered to the gun by assembly number ''CB6'' and remain in near excellent condition showing some thin checks at the escutcheons, attractive striations and are taking on a pleasant patina. All of the serialized parts are matching by the aforementioned assembly number ''CB6'' and the action seems to function well mechanically with solid timing and lockup. Also included are a custom-made blue paper box with facsimile printed advertisements in the exterior and interior lid, two original cartridges and an empty orange cartridge box with black label and gold ink that is now wrapped in protective cellophane and shows some light scuffs and tears; it appears to be an original box. This is a truly exceptional Moore's Patent revolver. (139040-30) {ANTIQUE}

Very Fine Colt Pocket Model of Navy Caliber Percussion Revolver

Lot # 2 (Sale Order: 2 of 655)

serial #6803, .36 cal, 4 1/2'' octagon barrel with an about good bore showing moderate oxidation and strong rifling. This is a lovely navy caliber pocket revolver, the barrel retaining about 90% original bright blue showing scattered small dings, spots of fine pinprick pitting and some flaking to pleasant gray-brown patina. The cylinder is mostly a mottled gray patina and shows a few small areas of light cleaning, pinprick pitting and strong flakes of bright blue in some of the protected corners. The cylinder scene shows some areas of softening but is still quite nice and complete and there are some remnants of safety pins at the back. The loading lever, hammer and frame all show strong case-hardened colors throughout having muted overall to a medium gray-brown patina with scattered freckling. The brass backstrap and triggerguard retain perhaps 20% silver finish mostly present in the protected areas of the triggerguard with the balance a light goldenrod patina. The New York barrel address, ''COLTS PATENT'' on the frame and ''36 CAL'' on the triggerguard all remain quite crisp, some of the screw heads show light slot wear but many still retain some remnants of attractive fire blue. The smooth one-piece walnut grip is ink-numbered to the gun and remains in very good plus condition retaining 90% antique varnish with some wear at the edges that appear to have a little older-added finish, scattered light dings and spots of minor oil soaking. The loading lever is un-numbered but the remaining parts are matching, including the wedge, and the action seems to function well mechanically with solid timing and lockup. Really a very attractive example of these interesting Colts, this one made in 1861. (138737-124) {ANTIQUE} [Dr. Louis C. March Jr. Collection]

Beautiful Percussion Double Fowler by J.H. Foster of Chicago, Illinois

Lot # 3 (Sale Order: 3 of 655)

About 20 bore, 31'' barrels with excellent bores. This rifle is maker marked on each lock ''J.H. FOSTER & CO / CHICAGO, ILL.'', the locks are otherwise unembellished. The barrels are Birmingham proofed and show a remnant of a rib marking ''LO---'' probably the beginning of ''LONDON FINE TWIST'' or some similar wording. The barrels show a nice old restored brown finish with strong pattern their whole length. The barrels were either new imports when the gun was built or were repurposed from an earlier British double fowler, either way they are original to this gun. While this is a relatively plain gun, the condition and quality is wonderful. The back action locks, barrel breech and top tang show 95% vivid original color case-hardened finish. The triggerguard is blued and shows simple, folky scroll engraving as does the color case-hardened tailpipe. The walnut stock is checkered at the wrist only and shows some nice figure through the butt. The condition of the stock is excellent with over 90% original finish remaining and with very crisp checkering. The gun is very honest with screwheads clean and properly indexed. A handsome and fine quality Chicago double fowler. (18937-189) {ANTIQUE} [Cletus Klein Collection]

Percussion Halfstock Sporting and Target Rifle by Nathaniel Whitmore

Lot # 4 (Sale Order: 4 of 655)

About .40 caliber, 31'' part round part octagon barrel with nicely turned rings at transition and a very good bore showing just a tiny bit of light pitting in some areas. This rifle was made for business as it shows no engraving and simple iron and German silver furniture and original false muzzle. The iron triggerguard is a fancy finger loop style and the top tang of the buttplate is nicely faceted. The sideplate is a simple German silver scroll and the wedge escutcheons are pointed ovals. The barrel is marked ''N. WHITMORE CAST-STEEL'' and retains a pleasing smooth brown patina overall with some scattered patches of light oxidation staining present. The lock, patent breech, tang, triggerguard and buttplate are very similar in color and remain completely smooth with what looks to be some faded color blending in areas. The stock is of walnut and relatively straight grained with graceful shadowline cheekpiece, pewter forend tip and German silver tailpipe. The condition of the stock is very good with 90% original finish remaining and with just one small crack at the right side of the forend tip. There was likely a little light oil finish added at some point along the way. The rifle is equipped with what looks to be its original full-length telescopic sight which has had its maker mark intentionally struc- through so it is no longer legible. The rifle has no other holes or provisions for any type of open sights however a lollipop peep and dovetail front would exchange for these scope mounts. The rifle comes with a brass tipped hickory ramrod which is period and possibly original. The rifle is equipped with its original single set trigger which needs adjustment. This is a nice honest rifle by this well-regarded Massachusetts maker. People often ask if scoped percussion single shot rifles are ''Civil War'' sniper rifles and often times the rifles being asked about are very fine, engraved and clearly made for a well-to-do target shooter. This rifle, in this configuration, being lighter than a true bench rifle, with undermounted ramrod and in its plain unembellished state, could indeed have been a sniper rifle, as it has the characteristics that would be desirable to a 19th century sniper. (18937-267) {ANTIQUE} [Cletus Klein Collection]

Beautiful Early Colt Model 1877 Lightning Double Action Revolver

Lot # 5 (Sale Order: 5 of 655)

serial #1343, 38 Colt, 3 1/2'' barrel with mostly bright very good plus bore showing a few spots of light oxidation and strong rifling throughout. This is a wonderful first year production sheriff's model revolver with the barrel, cylinder, backstrap and triggerguard retaining about 96% original blue with just a few small spots flaking to gray-brown patina at the muzzle and cylinder, light disassembly marks along the bottom of the barrel and some thinning along the backstrap. The two-line barrel address is crisp and clear and the etched ''COLT D.A. 38'' panel on the left side is nearly perfect. The ''38 CAL'' on the triggerguard is likewise quite crisp but the frame patent dates are rather poorly struck. There are a few tiny flaws in the metal on the right side of the frame but they are unobtrusive and the frame retains vibrant case-hardened colors throughout with just a little high edge wear and minor silvering. The sides of the hammer are bright and the back surface, screw heads and trigger retain almost all of their brilliant fire blue with just a little silvering along the trigger face. The checkered one-piece rosewood grip is pencil-numbered to the gun and remains in excellent condition showing just a few lightly chipped points and retains almost all of its original varnish. The loading gate is assembly-numbered ''140'', the underside of the barrel is erroneously numbered ''314'' and the cylinder, backstrap and triggerguard are all matching the frame. The action will require some mechanical attention as all of the hammer notches are worn but it still functions well in double action with excellent timing and lockup. Really an excellent example, these early guns are especially handsome with their checkered rosewood grips. (139100-816) {ANTIQUE} [Richard ''Stretch'' Kennedy Collection]

Whitney Navy Model Percussion Revolver

Lot # 6 (Sale Order: 6 of 655)

serial #645, .36 cal, 7 1/2'' octagon barrel with a mostly bright near excellent bore showing a few scattered spots of minor oxidation and strong rifling throughout. The barrel of this second model, first type retains about 50% original bright blue with the balance flaked to an attractive dark gray patina along with some disassembly marks from removal of the loading lever on the underside. The frame and cylinder are mostly a medium gray patina with scattered freckling, some spots of fine pinprick pitting, turn ring on cylinder and strong flakes of original bright blue at the rear of the frame and scattered about the cylinder. The loading lever and hammer are a silvery case-hardened patina and the trigger retains a few flakes of fire blue. The brass triggerguard retains about 75% silver finish taking on a nice tarnish with the balance worn to ocher brass. The eagle, shield and lion cylinder scene is quite nice and remains mostly crisp with a few areas slightly softened and the cylinder is of the correct type with just a single safety notch. The smooth walnut grips are stamp-numbered to the gun and remain in excellent condition retaining almost all of their original varnish with just a few scattered light dings and areas of minor crazing. The grip screw appears to be a period replacement, all of the serialized parts are matching and the action seems to function well mechanically with solid timing and lockup. Really a very attractive example of the less common first type revolver. (138817-13) {ANTIQUE}

Colt Model 1851 London Navy Percussion Revolver

Lot # 7 (Sale Order: 7 of 655)

serial #23138, .36 cal, 7 1/2'' octagon barrel with a bright excellent bore. This is a fine all-matching revolver, the barrel retaining about 70-75% original bright blue showing even flaking to a pleasant gray-brown patina along with some scattered light tool marks around the wedge and a spot of light pitting at the muzzle. The barrel is crisply-marked ''ADDRESS. COL. COLT. LONDON'' flanked by pointed lines. The cylinder is mostly a gunmetal-gray patina but still retains a very nice naval engagement scene that remains entirely visible with just a few small areas of softening. The revolver is curiously devoid of British proof marks. The loading lever, frame and hammer show areas of attractive case-hardened colors scattered throughout and still quite bold in some of the more protected areas with the majority toning to a silvery case-hardened patina along with spots of freckling here and there. ''COLTS PATENT'' is still clearly legible on the frame with just a couple letters softened. The iron backstrap and triggerguard have mostly toned to a silvery-gray patina showing scattered minor freckling, a few spots of pinprick pitting and some flakes of original blue lurking about the more protected areas. Some of the screw heads show light slot wear and the trigger and wedge both retain a healthy amount of bright fire blue. The smooth one-piece walnut grip remains in very good plus condition retaining about 90% antique varnish with scattered light dings and a few small spots of minor oil soaking. The action seems to function well mechanically, the nipples are very clean and the condition of the bore suggests the gun was very seldom fired. A lovely 1851 London Navy for the antique arms collector. (138817-32) {ANTIQUE}

Colt Model 1851 Navy L-Suffix Percussion Revolver

Lot # 8 (Sale Order: 8 of 655)

serial #186267L, .36 cal, 7 1/2'' octagon barrel with a mostly bright near excellent bore showing a few scattered spots of light oxidation and strong rifling throughout. These ''L''-marked revolvers were evidently intended for sale in England. The metal surfaces of this revolver have been lightly cleaned long ago and are now a medium gray patina throughout with remnants of light pitting here and there. The New York barrel address and ''36 CAL'' on the triggerguard are crisp and the ''COLTS PATENT'' appears to have been double-stamped but is also quite crisp. Areas of the cylinder naval scene have softened but the majority of the scene is still rather nice. The revolver is equipped with iron backstrap and triggerguard and the smooth one-piece walnut grip is deeply pencil-numbered to the gun and remains in very good condition showing strong varnish on the left side with flaking and scattered small dings. The wedge spring has been repaired at some point, the backstrap has been re-stamped to match the gun but is still appropriately marked with the ''L'' and all of the remaining serialized parts are matching including the wedge. The action seems to function well mechanically with solid timing and lockup. A good example of an interesting 1851 variant. (138817-2) {ANTIQUE}

Fine Cased Scottish Percussion Double Rifle by T.E. Mortimer of Edinburgh

Lot # 11 (Sale Order: 11 of 655)

serial #5578, about .65 caliber, 28'' barrels with bright excellent two-groove rifled bores. This is a wonderful rifle by this world-renowned maker. The top of the barrel is engraved ''T.E. Mortimer George St. Edinburgh late St. James St. London.'' and each lock is engraved ''T.E. Mortimer / George St.''. The locks are engraved with lovely game scenes depicting a lion and two lionesses on right lock, the left shows a lion, tiger and a leopard, all are in lovely tropical scenes with palm trees and grass in backgrounds. The barrel breech and tang show full coverage relief scroll with the barrel rib terminating in a raised semi-circular motif. The triggerguard bow shows a walking tiger while the buttplate tang shows a standing buck. All of the game scenes are beautifully executed and very endearing. Both hammers are full engraved in relief scroll with stylized dolphin head strikers. The condition of the rifle is wonderful with the barrels showing about 80% evenly thinning original brown finish with strong twist pattern visible for their entire length and with platinum blow out plugs present. The locks show about 70% faded original color case-hardened finish blending with a pleasing smooth gray patina with rear mounted sliding safeties and non-rebounding hammers. All engraving is crisp and there is no oxidation or pitting of any kind. The checkered English walnut stock is beautifully figured with flat top checkering on wrist only and with edges remaining crisp and clean. The stock shows about 95% original finish with just a few light handling marks and with the rear sling stud missing. The triggerguard retains about 85% bright original blue finish while the buttplate is at perhaps 40% blending with brown where finish is thinned from being shouldered. The rifle is sighted with a fine bead front with single standing and two folding leaf express rear regulated for 50, 100 and 150 yards. The rifle comes in its original oak casing with a full complement of accessories including a bullet mould for a mechanical round ball with raised ring around its circumference. a bag shaped powder flask, brass powder measure, patch cutter, turn screws, rosewood handled bullet starter, nipple cleaning tool, nipple wrench, pewter oiler and a cylindrical bone container for small parts. The case is oak with typical British brass fittings and is lined in green felt. The label on the interior lid shows the correct address and former address as found on barrels. The condition of the case and accessories is very good showing typical wear. Included in the case is a bill of sale from a British dealer to an American buyer named Robert Pearl of Yonkers, it is dated April of 1955. This is a very fine rifle with really lovely game scene engraving. (18937-141) {ANTIQUE} [Cletus Klein Collection]

Fine Percussion Double Rifle by Oscar Unger of Port Huron, Michigan

Lot # 12 (Sale Order: 12 of 655)

About .42 caliber, 30'' barrels with bright excellent bores. The tops of the barrels are marked ''O. UNGER'' on right and ''PORT HURON / MICH.'' on left while each of the locks are marked ''Josh Golcher''. Joseph Golcher was a famous and prolific lock maker in Philadelphia and these back action locks each show a typical folky hunting scene. The quality and condition of the rifle are both excellent. The barrels show lots of original brown finish blending with a pleasing patina and they remain smooth and free of pitting with crisp markings. The barrel breech, tang and iron triggerguard, buttplate, patchbox and tailpipe all show light simple scroll engraving and all show a smooth gray brown patina. The wedge escutcheons are of German silver and show a single border line engraved around their circumference, the only other German silver being a lovely and folky engraved recumbent buck on the cheekpiece. The locks are a silver gray patina overall with a few small patches of oxidation staining mostly around the screws. The stock is of beautifully figured American black walnut and shows coarse checkering on wrist only and large and graceful shadowline cheekpiece is present. The stock rates excellent retaining about 90 - 95% original finish with perhaps a little added light oil. The checkering is sharp as are the stock edges. The rifle is sighted with original open barrel sights. This rifle exudes the traits Cletus looked for, originality and condition. (18937-257) {ANTIQUE} [Cletus Klein Collection]

Lindsay Young America Two-Shot Pocket Pistol

Lot # 13 (Sale Order: 13 of 655)

serial #323, .41 cal, 4'' barrel with a lightly oxidized bore. The barrel, trigger and hammers are mostly a dark gray patina showing some moderate pitting scattered about. The frame is a pleasant ocher patina showing some light scratches and small dings. The metal surfaces are embellished with standard factory scroll work, punch-dot shading on the frame and the left side barrel with eagle, lion and panoply of arms motif. The embellishments on the sides of the barrel have softened a little and are somewhat obscured by light pitting. The un-numbered smooth walnut grips remain in about very good condition showing small chips at the toes of both panels, small dings, handling marks and some flakes of original varnish. The mainsprings seem to be a little weak but the action is otherwise functional. A solid example of these desirable pistols which utilized a superimposed double charge in its single barrel. (138737-56) {ANTIQUE} [Dr. Louis C. March Jr. Collection]

serial #1660, .44 cal, 7 1/2'' octagon barrel with a good bore showing moderate oxidation and strong rifling throughout. The metal surfaces of this revolver are mostly a mottled gray-brown patina showing a few scattered light dings, minor tool marks and spots of pinprick pitting. Presentation Quality New York Percussion Halfstock Sporting Rifle by B.W. Amsden of Saratoga Springs

Lot # 15 (Sale Order: 15 of 655)

.42 caliber, 30'' octagon barrel turned at muzzle for starter and showing a bright excellent bore. This rifle is built with a back action lock and is heavily embellished with lovely engraving and German silver, gold and sterling silver enhancements. The barrel is double gold banded at breech and is marked on its top flat ''SARATOGA SPGS / B.W. AMSDEN'' with decorative scroll engraved border. Beneath the engraved wedge on the right top flat of barrel, remnants of another Amsden signature is evident, clearly this barrel maker-marked prior to knowing the level of embellishment it would receive. The lock, barrel breech area and tang are engraved in period deeply cut scroll which is slightly folky in style and very endearing. The lock has a beautiful engraved German silver extension to the front along with a tastefully engraved extension to the rear. The patchbox shows pineapple finials to either side and is of German silver with the actual patchbox door being of iron. The triggerguard, Swiss buttplate and toeplate are all heavily engraved with nice engraved German silver plates mounted at the juncture of the toeplate and buttplate on either side of stock. The pewter forend tip is nicely engraved with fancy finial protruding back into the checkering. The condition of the rifle is fabulous as well with the barrel retaining a smooth pleasing mix of original brown finish and patina. The lock, tang and patent breech are all color case-hardened and have turned to a rich gray with a lovely smooth even surface. The nipple and bolster are perfectly smooth and free of pitting - there is little if any evidence the rifle was fired. The walnut stock is beautifully figured and is checkered at wrist and forestock. The checkering remains sharp, the stock retains a good deal of original oil finish and has very nice surfaces with a graceful cheekpiece on left side. Inlaid in the cheekpiece is a sterling silver banner which remains unengraved and the top of the wrist shows a shield shaped gold monogram plate which also remains unengraved. The sideplate is lovely and quite delicate being engraved with a pierced center and is of sterling silver. The wedge escutcheons are of German silver and are mounted within the forearm checkering. The rifle is sighted with a large globe front, fancy shaped long rear barrel sight and a lollipop tang mounted peepsight. A wonderful high grade New York state halfstock in a fabulous state of preservation. (18937-369) {ANTIQUE} [Cletus Klein Collection]

Lot # 17 (Sale Order: 17 of 655)

serial #84, .41 cal, 7 1/8'' ribbed octagon barrel with an about very good bore showing a few patches of moderate oxidation and strong rifling. Unfortunately this fine French revolver has seen some hard use but is still a solid example of a desirable antique arm. The metal surfaces are mostly a pewter-gunmetal patina showing scattered darker freckling and remnants of light pitting. The revolver has been extensively embellished with deep relief foliate scrollwork, geometric borders and crosshatching at the muzzle. The topstrap is properly marked ''DEVISME A PARIS'', ''DEVISME BTE A PARIS'' on the right side and the major parts are stamped with Devisme's trademark ''(Crown) /D V''. The grips are faintly ink-numbered ''84'' to the gun on their interiors and the left panel is also stamped in small numbers along the bottom edge what appears to be ''6267''. The barrel, cylinder and bullet seater are matching the frame and the action still seems to function well mechanically with a crisp hammer, good timing and lockup just a little loose. A good example of these mechanically interesting revolvers from the celebrated Devisme shop. (138737-135) {ANTIQUE} [Dr. Louis C. March Jr. Collection]

New York Percussion Target Pistol by John Hatch

Lot # 18 (Sale Order: 18 of 655)

.40 cal, 11 3/8'' part round part octagon barrel with a moderately oxidized bore showing some good rifling. This is a very attractive target pistol that is described and pictured on page 741, Volume II of The New York State Firearms Trade by H. J. Swinney. The barrel features a nicely-turned medial at the point of transition, silver band at the breech and light but very tasteful foliate embellishment at the breech, hammer, lockplate and triggerguard. The pistol also features dual iron thimbles, pineapple finial triggerplate extension, pewter nosecap and German silver wedge escutcheons, sidepates, monogram plate at wrist and tear-shaped inlay at the butt. The metal surfaces are mostly a pleasant medium gray patina showing some spots of cleaned light pitting scattered about, more moderate at the breech and the top barrel flat is clearly marked ''J. HATCH SYRACUSE N.Y.'' and the pistol is equipped with a ''MOORE & BAKER''-marked lock. The checkered walnut stock is really quite lovely with excellent metal-to-wood fit and shows attractive figure throughout. There are a couple very minor thin drying cracks here and there, scattered small dings and the checkering is somewhat worn but the stock otherwise remains in very good plus condition. Included is a hickory ramrod with iron tip and the pistol is sighted with a fine rear notch and thin brass blade front. The lock is worn and the hammer no longer holds but is certainly worthy of repair by a competent gunsmith. A fine American percussion target pistol that has seen some honest use. John Hatch was active in Syracuse sometime before 1842 before moving to Cazenovia and working there into the early 1880s. (138624-7) {ANTIQUE}

Rare Savage Model 1907 U.S. Trials Pistol

Lot # 20 (Sale Order: 20 of 655)

serial #152, 45 ACP, 5 1/4'' barrel with a very good plus bore showing some moderate frosting in the grooves and strong rifling throughout. This is a very nice trials gun that has not been factory-refinished after testing and retains about 90% original blue with some thinning to gray patina along the gripstraps and high edges, light holster wear and a couple of fine pinprick pits scattered about the sides of the slide. The safety lever and extractor retain some strong remnants of fire blue, the trigger shows bold case-hardened colors and the magazine release is mostly a smooth gray patina with some remnants of case-hardened colors. The slide rib markings are crisp and clear and are the appropriate original ''SAVAGE ARMS CO.'' style with ''CAL .45'' markings. The checkered walnut grips remain in about very good condition showing a repaired thin crack through the left panel, small sliver detached from the back edge of the right panel that is still properly retained, light smoothing and handling marks. The left panel is mismatched stamp-numbered ''205'' with a ''23'' rack number on the top edge and the right panel is stamp-numbered matching the frame. These grips were very thin and did not stand up well to the recoil of the pistol and the very last guns tested are sometimes seen with updated thicker panels. One original magazine serial #106 is included, the remaining serialized parts are all-matching and the action seems to function well mechanically. This pistol is not specifically listed in Springfield Research but all of these guns were originally made for army testing and three 64-gun batches were issued to 3rd Cavalry, 6th Cavalry and 11th Cavalry, respectively, with the remainder being dispersed to a number of other smaller military entities. Most of the pistols were reacquired by Savage after the trials, refurbished and sold on the commercial market making originally-marked and finished guns even more desirable. This is a very fine example of these historically significant arms and an essential addition to any U.S. martial arms collection. (139100-808) {C&R} [Richard ''Stretch'' Kennedy Collection]

Colt Model 1900 Semi-Auto Pistol

Lot # 21 (Sale Order: 21 of 655)

serial #2556, 38 ACP, 6'' barrel with a bright very good plus bore showing some very light pinprick pitting and strong rifling throughout. This 1902-made pistol has been refurbished by the factory with the original sight safety removed, the pistol refinished and proofed with Colt's ''VP'' mark. The metal surfaces retain about 20% factory reapplied blue mostly present along the slide and more protected areas with the balance toned to a mottled dark gray-brown patina showing scattered moderate freckling. The markings are now rather soft, particularly on the left side slide. Most of the small parts retain good fire blue and the hammer shows remnants of case-hardened colors. The black checkered hard rubber grips remain in near excellent condition showing a few scattered light dings and handling marks. The slide is matching the frame, the action seems to function well mechanically and one correct original magazine in near excellent condition is included. (138737-142) {C&R} [Dr. Louis C. March Jr. Collection]

Very Fine Japanese Baby Nambu Semi-Auto Pistol by Tokyo Army Arsenal

Lot # 22 (Sale Order: 22 of 655)

serial #5323, 7mm Nambu, 3 1/4'' barrel with a bright near excellent bore showing just a couple tiny spots of light oxidation. The metal surfaces of this pistol retain about 95% original blue with most of the loss due to a few scattered spots of light pitting at the high edges which are toning to gray patina, freckling along the gripstraps and other light handling marks. The small parts retain strong straw color with silvering along the sides of the trigger, the bolt body remains bright and the markings are crisp. The checkered walnut grips are stamp-numbered to the gun and remain in near excellent condition showing just a few very minor dings and handling marks. The left panel is just a little loosely fitted and the grip screws show some very light slot wear. The striker is un-numbered, not unusual for a late-production Tokyo Arsenal gun and strangely the recoil spring guide rod is numbered ''5293'' but all of the remaining parts appear to be matching. Included is one original magazine numbered to the gun with a period indicating that this is the ''spare'' magazine. It retains about 85% original nickel finish with some scattered light flaking and operational wear. A very nice example of these iconic and desirable Japanese pistols. Very Fine Percussion Heavy Picket Rifle

Lot # 25 (Sale Order: 25 of 655)

.48 cal., 34'' heavy octagon barrel measures 1.45'' flat to flat and has a bright excellent bore. The top of the barrel is marked ''T. DORMADY'' which is the only marking on the rifle. This is not a known maker however due to the striking resemblance to rifles built by Morgan James he is believed to be a contemporary and possibly someone who worked under James at some point. The quality and condition of this rifle are wonderful. The barrel retains about 90% evenly thinning original brown finish with virtually no oxidation present. The barrel breech and frame retain 90% strong original color case-hardened finish with almost all loss coming on straps that protrude into the wrist of the stock where a shooter would make contact with the metal. The bolster is quite fancy and the hammer has a beautifully formed dolphin face striker. The stock is of nicely figured walnut and rates excellent plus with 95% plus original finish remaining. Color case-hardening on buttplate has mellowed however toeplate still shows strong color and has a nice semi-circular shape at its tip. The rifle is equipped with a globe target front sight, no provision for rear barrel sight and the original lollipop tang mounted peep sight is in place. The rifle comes in a nice old coffin shaped box with dovetailed joints which contains the following accessories: the original false muzzle, 20th century brass starter with steel plunger, bullet swage which is also marked ''T. DORMADY'', period nipple wrench, modern patch cutter, modern molds and brass barrel rest. The key for the case is also present. A really lovely American percussion target rifle formerly of the Dan Schlegel collection. (18937-147A) {ANTIQUE} [Cletus Klein Collection]
