Fine Harrington & Richardson Model 999 Sportsman Double Action Revolver with Scarce Original Case

Lot # 1007 (Sale Order: 8 of 675)

serial #A6955, 22 LR, 6” barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces of this attractive 1945-46-made revolver retain about 98-99% original blue with some lost just due to a little mild brown speckling along the barrel along with a few other light handling marks. The hammer retains all of its attractive case-hardened colors and all markings remain crisp and clear, this early example not yet marked with the “999” designation. The checkered walnut grip with flared heel remains in excellent condition actually showing some really lovely grain figure throughout. The original target sights are intact, barrel-to-frame fit is solid and the action seems to function well mechanically. Included is a scarce original hard shell case, these were made for H&R by a local company from a Bakelite-like material of compressed sawdust and resin and offered at extra cost. The case remains in very fine condition, much of the original dark blue paint has flaked off of the lid and base but remains strong along the sides and the exterior otherwise just shows some mild scuffs and handling marks. The interior is lined in maroon baize and rates excellent. The consignor’s notes indicate to us that the case-manufacturing company was headed by a “Mr. Smith” and that this revolver was presented to him by H&R. An excellent example of these quality H&R revolvers. (13B10248-41) {C&R} [The Richard Littlefield H&R Collection] (1500/2000)

Lot # 1011 (Sale Order: 12 of 675)

serial #U968, 22 LR, 6 1/4” barrel with a bright excellent bore. Scarce Devel “Full House” Smith & Wesson Model 59 Semi-Auto Pistol

Lot # 1020 (Sale Order: 21 of 675)

serial #A359469 (Devel #227), 9mm, 3 1/2” barrel with an excellent bore. The compact pistols we enjoy today were just a wishful hope in the 1970s and 1980s. Charlie Kelsey of Devel Corporation, inspired by the ASP conversion, re-engineered the S&W Models 39 and 59 into handsome, reliable, compact pistols for law enforcement and discriminating shooters that we take for granted today. This lovely full house Devel conversion has supporting documentation showing it was ordered in 1983 by Captain Dennis Kurowski of the Federal Protective Service in Chicago. It is pistol number 227 of 234 made. The pistol remains in outstanding condition, the metal surfaces retain about 99% Devel added dull hard chrome finish with a few light handling marks and a single ding on the backstrap that has raised a burr on the base metal and broke through the hard chrome finish. The original thin micarta “window” grips rate excellent and feature a red background “Devel” medallion on each window. The pistol is filled with many features offered on the Devel conversions: barrel, slide and frame shortened; triggerguard hook for finger forward hold, longitudinal lightening cuts on the slide, ramp front sight with red insert, ambidextrous slide mounted safeties / de-cockers, spurless hammer with top serrations to allow single action cocking, serrations on the frontstraps and backstraps, plus their function and reliability package. The magazines were shortened to fit the abbreviated size of the converted gun, given a pair of view windows on both sides of the tube and a new baseplate pinned in place, then finished to customer specifications. This gun was ordered with an additional magazine and comes with three Devel converted and hard chromed magazines showing light use. It also includes a Rogers open top dual magazine pouch in excellent condition and supporting documentation and information. In their day the Devel conversions were expensive but highly prized by professionals. Today they are prized for their innovation, workmanship and pioneering spirit that introduced today’s crop of compact pistols. Another Devel Model 39 conversion is offered as the next lot. The rifle is equipped with a “SA” marked bolt, the operating rod is stamped “TRW”, and the hammer is marked “HR-N”. There is no magazine present, but the rifle does include a green canvas GI sling. This rifle was built just a few short years after the Springfield Armory company was purchased and incorporated by the Reese family and the company was moved to Geneseo, IL. Made with quality GI and Match parts it should prove to be an excellent shooter. (4A10219-2) {MODERN} (1800/2200)

Springfield Armory Inc M1A Semi-Auto Rifle

Lot # 1023 (Sale Order: 24 of 675)

serial #013117, 7.62 NATO, 22” barrel with a 3” flash hider and a very good to very good plus bore with scattered specks of light oxidation in the grooves but strong rifling throughout. The metal surfaces retain about 98% original parkerized finish with some fine surface oxidation in spots and a few light handling marks. The pistolgrip walnut stock is in very good condition as lightly cleaned with two light wear marks on the forend due to rubbing from the bipod feet, a thin crack at the rear splice of the pistolgrip, traveling forward about half the width of the grip, and a minor handling mark or two. The stock features a folding steel buttplate, folding foregrip, cut for selector switch, and a ventilated polymer handguard. The receiver markings remain crisp, the barrel is “NM” marked, and the small parts are a mix of surplus parts; the front sight is “NM 062” marked. In an effort to use the M14 as a squad automatic weapon the U.S. military developed similarly configured rifles, differing in the addition of a muzzle brake. Included with the rifle is a single 20-round magazine, folding steel bipod, a 1963-dated Army Field manual, and “THE M14 RIFLE” by Desert Publications. A solid representation of an ultimately unsuccessful infantry automatic rifle. (14A10192-2) {MODERN} [John Lipski Collection] (1200/1800)
