Lovely decorated yellow Balinese ceremonial umbrella, shortened for use as a parasol or able to be attached to a longer section of pole to stand alone. In the Balinese dialect these umbrellas are known as 'tedung', which literally means 'to guard'. The umbrellas are used in ceremonial parades and positioned around the compounds in alignment to various shrines that are orientated towards the sacred mountain of Gunung Agung. Size 36 1/2" W, 40" H. Condition: Beautiful condition throughout.. Provenance: Patrick Kipper Art Collection
