Desert Sands Pottery was founded in the late 1940s in Nevada, gaining popularity for its distinctive swirl or agateware pottery made by layering colored clays. Inspired by N. M. Owens swirl pottery, the company produced vases, bowls, and giftware with natural earth-tone patterns. Based in Las Vegas by the 1950s, it remained active through the 1970s. Today, its vibrant, marbled pieces are prized by collectors of mid-century and Southwestern pottery.Striking mid-20th century Desert Sands Pottery vase featuring their signature multicolored swirl glaze. Bands of rich brown, cobalt blue, green, ivory, and red clay spiral around the bulbous form, topped with a narrow, flared neck. Stands approximately 9.5 inches tall. A classic example of California swirl pottery with excellent color contrast and form.
