A refined and spiritually expressive watercolor on paper by Dutch artist Jacob de Wit (1695–1754), titled Predication, a religious-themed work rendered in delicate tones and masterful draftsmanship. De Wit, best known for his ecclesiastical and allegorical compositions, was a prominent figure of the Dutch Rococo period, celebrated for his ceiling frescoes and monochromatic “grisaille” works. This intimate watercolor features a carefully orchestrated biblical scene, filled with movement and clarity of gesture, consistent with de Wit's known iconography. The work was exhibited at the Edward-Dean Museum in the show Illumination: Religious Symbolism in Art, held from December 2012 to January 2013. Inscriptions on the reverse, along with a small paper affixed with notations, add historical character and insight into its provenance.
