Antique Matched Pair of Continental 4-Barrel Single Action Percussion Pepperboxes, NVSN, 9mm, 3.75" manually-revolved individual round barrel groups have removable ramrods with 7-sided heads, faux Damascus finish, are numbered "1" thru "4" and "5" thru "8" at breeches; sidehammer actions have engraved serpentine lockplates/sideplates, top and bottom tangs, loop trigger guards, round nipple shields and varnished carved and fluted burl walnut grips with flat buttplates and knob skull crackers. Mfg'd ca. 1850s. Condition is very good being cleaned, smooth gunmetal gray with traces of case colors, sharp edges, markings and engraving. 2nd pistol has a repaired thru-crack halfway down grip, both show lovely grain, color and finish. Mfg'd ca. 1870s-90s. Condition is very good with smooth gray gunmetal showing traces of blue and occasional discoloration, sharp markings and engraving. Mfg'd ca. 1840s-60s. Condition is good, the barrels being smooth brown gunmetal with traces of blue, the balance clean gunmetal; hammer and trigger show muted case colors. Grips are smooth with knackering at butt and added varnish. Edges, markings and engraving are sharp and clear; etched pattern has softened but shows blue in trigger area. Antique European (Likely Belgian) Large-Bore Percussion Pistol, but Unmarked as to Maker or Origin, NVSN, .60 cal., wedge-retained 7.5" octagonal barrel with lovely browned Damascus-like finish lightly floral-engraved at breech/tang and slightly swamped at muzzle, has what may be a Liege proof at left; flat lockplate has matching engraving as does hammer; iron furniture includes engraved trigger guard having fancy urn-like upper finial, leaf-shaped sideplate, raised oval buttcap, single ferrule retaining the button-tip ramrod. Stock of varnished walnut has raised panels at either side of lock, raised molding at butt. Mfg'd ca. 1840s-60s. Condition is fine retaining approx. 95% striped barrel finish, 50% darkened blue, sharp edges and engraving. Stock is sound and smooth showing very minor marks, a couple small grain cracks at sideplate, pleasing grain, color and finish. Massive Antique SxS Double-Barrel Muzzle-Loading Percussion Elephant Rifle, by F. Barnes & Co., London, NVSN, approx. 8 bore/.85 cal., rifled 26" round twist-steel barrels lack British proof marks (likely for export to Africa for safari use), have dovetailed blade front and notched folding-leaf rear sights mounted to the .75" wide full-length top rib, which is marked "F. Barnes * Co. London" near breech; twin sidelocks are finely scroll-engraved in the "banknote" style with matching hammers and marked "F. Barnes & Co." Iron fittings include a large guard with fancy front finial for the two triggers, wide shotgun-style buttplate, two plain and one fancy ferrules retaining the brass-tipped hardwood ramrod with threaded hole for bullet-worm, most fittings being engraved en suite. Varnished walnut stock has two oval German-silver escutcheons about the barrel wedge, checkering at wrist, a sling stud ahead of a 1" vacant oval impression at belly (possibly for a nameplate). Front rod ferrule has sling stud. Mfg'd latter half of 19th century. Condition is good retaining traces of blue in protected areas, being generally smooth gray gunmetal having fine markings and engraving, with deep pitting along barrels and buttplate, which has a crack at top screw. Stock is sound showing worn checkering, possible worm holes above tail of right lock, scarring at left wrist, significant wood loss at buttplate, chipping and a 3" wood loss at juncture with barrels. Actions are strong and crisp, bores show occasional moderate-to-heavy erosion and fine rifling. This very heavy and rare rifle provided great stopping power for dangerous big-game (including rhinoceros, hippopotamus and cape buffalo) when used with heavy slugs in the days before the advent of metallic cartridges. Antique Italian Model 1751 Naval Cutlass Sword, with possibly original Scabbard

Antique Italian Model 1751 Naval Cutlass Sword, with possibly original Scabbard. The 24" long blade has a single very wide fuller that runs about 3/4s of the length of the blade. Blade is about 1-5/8" wide near the base. Back spine of the blade is flat. There are engraved decorations of the Coat of Arms of the House of Savoy with a large crown over an eagle, and floral flourishes; the other side features the motto "VIVE LE ROY DE SARDAIGNE" or Long Live the King of Sardinia. Small round arsenal proof mark with a "y" in the center, at the short ricasso area. Brass hilt with flat crossguard and quillion tip, D-shaped knuckle bow with one branch, brass backstrap and peened pommel cap. Grip is wood with its original leather covering, with a single brass wire wrapping. Brass ferrule at bottom of the grip. Leather scabbard has a brass fitting housed inside the leather covering, with just the tip sticking out. Condition is very good, the blade showing age graying, some heavy pitting near the edge, tip, and back spine, some scratches, and light sharpening. Guard is in very good shape, having been cleaned in the not-so-recent past. Grip is sound with remnants of the original leather covering, and all the grip wire intact. Hilt is a bit loose to the blade tang, with some movement. Scabbard shows age, scratches, scuffs, and shrinkage, with a sewn seam down the middle of the back side and two decorative grooves in the front side. Leather is a bit stiff, but overall, still supple and sound. Blade does not fit all the way into the scabbard. Est.: $600-$900.

Kent" ), nosecap retaining the button-tip steel ramrod. Walnut 3/4-stock has raised aprons at either side of lock. Mfg'd likely 18th century. Condition is good, having generally smooth gray-brown gunmetal. Stock may have been partially reworked to present grip shape, has filler at buttcap, a thru-crack at wrist, a 2.75" crack behind nosecap. Sideplate may be a replacement. Lock appears to be original miquelet with correct parts; touchhole may have been refurbished long ago. Action functions but does not achieve full-cock, smoothbore shows overall moderate-to-heavy erosion. Est.: $700-$1,000. (Antique)

Walnut fullstock has raised aprons with teardrop terminals at either side of lock and behind the barrel tang, step at lower ferrule. Mfg'd late 18th century. Condition is good with the iron surfaces showing evidence of heavily-cleaned deep pitting, now bright metal. Stock is sound having minor age/use marks, has been smoothed/sanded, forend perhaps re-shaped. Touchhole has been bushed, ramrod appears shortened, ferrules may be replacements. Walnut fullstock has raised aprons at either side of lock and behind barrel tang, step at midpoint, is marked "(broad arrow)/BO" at left wrist, "(crown)/(crossed scepters)" at right, "J(dot)A" stock-maker's mark behind sideplate, cryptic marks in ramrod channel. Mfg'd late 18th century. Condition is good, the barrel being deep age brown with light overall oxidation and very good markings, the lock generally smooth gunmetal with sharp markings, brass with aged patina. Stock shows the effects of age and military use, has scattered dings and scrapes, 4" wood repair along lower lock margin, 1" of filler at rear of and at right butt, crack ahead of lock, 1" loss at right barrel midpoint, cracks and 2.5" worming loss at nose, especially left side. Lock appears to be original flintlock with restored touchhole. Missing the left-side belt hook; ramrod broken off at lower end. Action is very strong, smoothbore shows overall light roughness. Antique British P-1777 Short Land Pattern Flintlock Musket, Altered to a Cavalry Carbine, NVSN, .75 cal., 28.75" round barrel with cannon-turnings at breech has two deeply-impressed Birmingham proof marks; "banana" lockplate has a "(crown)" below the integral pan and "Tower" in a vertical curve behind the reinforced cock; brass furniture includes 1-pc. trigger guard, peaked buttplate, serpentine sideplate, two thimbles retaining the button-tip iron ramrod; 9" iron saddle bar and ring are retained by the rear sideplate screw and thru-hole with threaded nut at right side. Walnut fullstock has raised aprons at either side of lock and behind barrel tang, tall comb, step at lower thimble. Likely mfg'd latter half 18th century originally as a musket, this carbine was altered ca. 20th century by shortening the barrel and stock, and adding the saddle bar/ring. Condition is good as configured, the barrel is clean gray gunmetal, the lock dark brown, both with clear markings. Stock is sound having the expected marks of great age and use, with a 4.25" wood repair above the lock at right, several moderately-deep gouges at left midpoint, a 2.5" crack emanating from the lower thimble. Rear sight and nosecap are missing, as is upper sideplate/lock screw and sling loop from trigger guard. Action is sticky, smoothbore shows uniform moderate-to-deep corrosion. Est.: $1,800-$2,400. Rle./de Mutzig" under the separate brass pan, has reinforced military cock with "5" marked on bolt head; iron furniture includes large trigger guard with front sling loop and two finger grooves at rear, wide peaked buttplate, serpentine sideplate impressed with arrowhead-shaped mark, three spring-retained bands (top of the double-strap type having brass blade sight and integral nosecap/pipe retaining the button-tip ramrod, middle with sling loop). Stock of oil-finished walnut has roundel at right butt reading, in part "---ousti P. 1817" , 4" dished cheekrest at left. Mfg'd ca. 1817. Condition is good showing generally smooth gunmetal gray-brown having scattered light discoloration (pitting at breech and buttplate), sharp edges and clear markings. Stock is sound with mostly-legible roundel, shows scattered marks of age and military use, 1.75" filler patch at right-rear of lock, chipping along ramrod channel, added varnish. Very Large and Sturdy Antique German Percussion Horseman's Pistol, in the Style of the Prussian M1850 but Fitted with Attachable Shoulder Stock, #101, .58 cal., unmarked 11.25" round-to-octagonal barrel has integral nipple bolster with cleanout screw, unusual nosecap/protector for the blade front sight (may also act as a bayonet mount), notched rear sight atop tang; flat lockplate is marked "Suhl/V.C.S." below nipple, has unusual pivoting nipple guard/safety with frizzen-type spring, military style hammer; steel fittings include trigger guard with finger-spur, serpentine sideplate, slotted backstrap (marked "101" ) for attachment of shoulder stock having integral topstrap, mounting plate and 7" lower tang with 2.5" sling bar and tweezer device, no buttplate. Pistol stock of oil-finished walnut has raised panels each side of lock, matching buttstock has 8.75" raised cheekrest at left, is marked "34" , "39" (?) and a bell-like cartouche behind. Mfg'd ca 1850s-60s. Condition is good retaining no original finishes but an overall smooth brown aged patina with sharp edges and markings. Stocks are sound and smooth showing minimal marks (more to shoulder stock), much oil finish. Action is non-functioning (hammer does not hold cock), bore shows moderate erosion toward muzzle, very good rifling. Perhaps unique or experimental. Est.: $1,500-$2,000. (Antique)

Civil War-Era German Model 1858 Podewils Muzzleloading Rifle, Altered to Breechloader, #75100, 13.9mm cal., 37" round barrel marked "75100" and "(crown)/I" at left and sunken "GF" at top of semi-octagonal breech, has block-blade front sight (also serves as bayonet lug) and unusual long-range flip-up rear; flat lockplate is marked "Amberg 1863" in arc over the "(Bavarian crown)" , large receiver has grooved bolt handle that pivots up to open the action for loading prepared charges; steel fittings include large trigger guard with front sling loop, buttplate, serpentine sideplate marked "(crown)/I" , three spring-retained bands (front of the double-strap type with integral nosecap/pipe for ramrod, middle with sling loop, all having various marks). Fullstock of oil-finished beech has marks stamped at belly, raised panels at either side of lock, 2-pc. forend. Mfg'd 1863 at the Amberg Arsenal. Condition is good showing bright metal toning to gunmetal gray, with occasional discoloration and light peppering, sharp edges and markings. Stock is sound showing overall dings, nicks, shallow gouges, and added varnish. Action is strong and smooth, bore shows overall erosion in grooves, sharp rifling. Antique Danish Percussion Infantry Musket, #4362, .72 cal., 36" round barrel, bayonet stud 1.125" from muzzle and complex rear sight on a long base having a thumbscrew-adjustable sliding "leaf" graduated for 400-600 meters, has numerous marks at breech including "1850" 131 2RB10," "(crown)/131", "(crown)/T/(crown)", "P/(crown)", and sunken "R" ; beveled lockplate is marked "(crown)/R" over "MD" 1848/1850" 131" below nipple bolster, has unique hinged hammer-block safety bar and hammer (both marked "131" ); furniture includes iron floorplate having long rear tang and brass loop trigger guard, rectangular iron patchbox with hinged door, brass buttplate marked "131" , brass serpentine sideplate, three barrel bands (lower spring-retained, middle with long front pipe and sling loop, upper of the double-strap type with integral blade sight and nosecap/pipe for the steel ramrod with cupped barrel tip (marked "1850" 131" ). All brass fittings are gold-plated. Fullstock of oil-finished walnut has an oval "CC" mark at top of wrist, sling loop at belly, step at lower band. Mfg'd ca mid-1800s. Condition is very good, being smooth gunmetal gray-brown with sharp edges and markings; brass parts retain most gold plating that appears original. Stock is sound showing occasional dings and shallow gouges yet smooth with nice finish. Action is strong and crisp, bore is clean with light frosting and deep, sharp rifling. Est.: $800-$1,200. Antique Belgian Percussion Military Belt Pistol, NVSN, .69 cal., 8.25" round barrel, blade front and no rear sights, marked "C" within a shaded shield, a tiny sunken oval mark, and an oval "E/LG/(star)" Liege proofmark at the faceted breech; squared flat lockplate has a "(crown)/FM" mark at integral dished nipple bolster, large military-style hammer; fittings include 2-pc. brass trigger guard on a steel floorplate, large peaked brass buttcap whose upper tang joins the steel backstrap extending to the upper barrel tang, serpentine brass sideplate that joins with the brass nosecap's rear tang. Halfstock of oil-finished walnut has raised aprons at either side of lock, is marked "Vaud/21" at left side. Mfg'd ca. 1840-60s. Condition is excellent retraining bright metal finishes, crisp edges and clear markings. Stock is sound and smooth with lovely grain, color and finish. Rare Antique Irish Constabulary Pattern 1848 Percussion Police Pistol, #555, .65 cal./16 bore, 4.5" round barrel without sights, marked "(crown)/TP/(broad arrow)" at breech, has full-length lower rib with pipe retaining the button-tip stirrup ramrod; boxlock frame marked "V/(large crown)/R" at left, "Tower/1853" right, "555" below has central hammer, integral trigger guard/rear pipe and upper/lower tangs retaining the 1-pc. walnut bag-style grip marked "(broad arrow)/BO" at right with perhaps other markings at butt obscured by knackering. This particular pistol is featured in a Dec. 2016 Man at Arms magazine article where it states that it is referred to as the "Port Arthur Penitentiary or Tasmanian Issue" and used by the prison guards there. Formerly in the Norm Fladerman collection. Mfg'd ca. 1853. Condition is good retaining no original finish but an overall dark brown patina with scattered light oxidation, fine edges and markings. Grip shows marks of military/police use, battering at butt. Action is strong but stiff, clean smoothbore shows light etching. Est.: $1,500-$2,000. (Antique)

Antique Dutch M1854 Ring-Hammer Percussion Saddle-Ring Cavalry Carbine, NVSN, .69 cal., 17.75" round barrel with blade front and tall notched rear sights, marked "1855" , "(crown)/B" , "(crown)/V" , "(crown)/W" and less-distinct marks at semi-octagonal breech; beveled lockplate is marked "(crown)/HL/55" below the unique ring hammer with knurled inside grip; steel fittings include military-style 2-pc. trigger guard having two finger-grips at long rear tang, buttplate marked with 3 rows of indistinct rack or unit letters/numbers, serpentine sideplate having integral 8" saddle bar and ring, spring-retained band/nosecap; 3/4-stock of oil-finished walnut. Mfg'd in Maastricht ca. 1855. Condition is good with heavily polished bright metal showing scattered cleaned erosion, generally clear markings. Stock is sound and smooth (having been sanded) with light marks and added varnish. Action is strong and crisp, bore shows cleaned patches of light/moderate erosion and sharp rifling. 1860s-Era Breechloading Metallic Cartridge 3-Band Infantry Rifle, by Barnett of London, altered from a P1853 Enfield, #425/597, .577 CF cal., 35.75" round barrel has standard P1853 sights (rear marked "J&EP" ), is marked at breech with 3 British and 1 oval "ELG" Liege proofs; receiver (marked "425/397" ) has unique 3.25" "trapdoor" breechblock (marked "425" , with floating firing pin) hinged to 2.625" mount atop barrel; flat lockplate with double line-border marked "Barnett/London" retains original Enfield hammer; brass fittings include trigger guard with sling loop, buttplate marked "E 15" at top, 2 winged lock screw escutcheons, nosecap; fullstock of oil-finished walnut is marked "Patented/Feb. 27, 1866" and "1C" at left lock apron, "CH/1" in circular cartouche atop comb, shows distinct tiger stripe pattern and is retained by 3 clamping bands (front with sling loop). Mfg'd 1850s. Condition is near fine retaining approx. 25% blue mixing with age brown and light discoloration, traces of case colors, sharp edges and markings. Stock is sound and smooth showing minor dings, nice grain and color with much original striping and finish. Action is crisp, bore shows light etching toward muzzle, shallow rifling. Antique British Breechloading Percussion Military Rifle, Perhaps an Experimental or Trials Gun but unmarked as to maker, NVSN, .577 cal., 33" round barrel is marked "25" with a Birmingham proofmark, has tall blade front and sliding-leaf rear sights; receiver has rear-hinged "trapdoor" type system that incorporates a unique "pusher" for loading self-contained paper/linen cartridges into chamber; flat lockplate is marked "1865", has military-type hammer; steel fittings include loop trigger guard, straight buttplate, two winged lock screws, two clamping bands (upper with sling loop), nosecap, slotted/grooved ramrod. Fullstock of varnished walnut has large raised panels either side of lock, step at lower band. Mfg'd 1865. Condition is near excellent retaining approx. 90% brown, muted case colors, else clean smooth gunmetal. Stock is sound and smooth exhibiting generally minor marks (bit heavier at belly, crack behind bolster), pleasing grain, color and finish. Action is crisp, bore is bright with sharp rifling. But for details of its trapdoor mechanism, this rifle-perhaps a "one-off"- is almost an exact mate to a similar trials rifle made at the St. Etienne Arsenal and also dated "1865." Essentially they were obsolete when made, as cartridge arms were quickly becoming the world standard. Modern wood tompion with brass head and unusual brass clamping device on barrel are included.
