Small Percussion English Muff Pistol, marked (William) Abbey (of High Street) in Newport Pagnell, in Buckinghamshire, where he sold pistols from 1829 to 1851. He was succeeded by his son Edmund (1852-1869). Abbey's was a typical small town gun shop that also sold cutlery and similar items. The pistol itself was probably mfg'd in Birmingham. Pistol is .31 cal., 1-1/4'' screw barrel, centerhammer with tang safety, and wooden bag grips. Condition is very good with light general patina and very minor darkening to one-piece grips. Officer's Quality Private Purchase Pommel Holsters, for 1836 Flintlock or Model 1842 Percussion Pistols, dating from the time of the U.S.-Mexican War (1846-1848). Constructed from black bridle leather with brass flap finials. The area beneath flaps with five tin tubes, each sewn to the leather with protective flap for .54 cal. paper cartridges. Both holsters are mfg'd with leather plugs at bases. Holster bodies with one attaching strap for securing to saddle. Exterior of cover flaps with lovely period blue material with gold bullion adornments, as was the practice of officers from this period thru the Civil War. Condition is excellent considering nearly 170 years of age. Stitching is tight, exterior of surfaces shows crazing, with light mothing to blue covers. Bullion stitching is approx. one stitch per inch, having several areas at top of left flap that has come loose (thread is present). As fine as any in private hands. Est.: $2,000-$4,000....more

Condition is about fine with even brown patina to barrel and bolster, and moderate toning to sideplate. Triggerguard, pommel cap and barrel band with toning mustard like coloration. Springfield Model 1855 Pistol Carbine, w/Stock

Springfield Model 1855 Pistol Carbine, with Stock, NVSN, .58 cal., 12'' barrel, finished in the white, walnut stock, brass hardware, and captive ramrod. Mfg'd by the Springfield Armory from 1855-1857. Lock features Maynard self-priming device, three-leaf rear sight, correct three-groove rifling, with approx. 4,020 mfg'd. Union Army's quarterly field reports, dated Dec. 31, 1862, report at least 400 pistol carbines were still in service and found in photographs with both Union and Confederate soldiers during the Civil War. Originally conceived for cavalryman as a pistol for horseback, but with the addition of the stock troopers could use it for dismounted fighting. Lock is dated 1855 with Federal eagle to Maynard priming device cover, as well as ''U.S. Springfield''; bottom lower tang of stock with small numeral ''7''. Condition is about fine with light carbon toning to bright surfaces. Pistol's stock with small fracture at top lockplate screw. Stock attachment remains in excellent condition with very light toning and minor discoloration to brass components. Priming device remains loaded with period caps. Est.: $3,500-$5,000. Bel. Double Action Bulldog Type Revolver

Belgian Double Action Bulldog Type Revolver, with side-mounted safety lever by J. Marechal, #77, 11mm, 4'' barrel, blue and straw finish, checkered walnut grips, with lanyard loop in butt. Cylinder marked with Liege proofmarks, and two chambers numbered ''1'' and ''2'', with direction of rotation marked by arrow. Purchased by Dutch municipalities and used by their police forces. The safety bar, which is thumb activated, was preferred as an added safety measure for the user. The ''1''-(arrow)-''2'' markings on the cylinder indicate direction of rotation as an additional safety measure. Apparently prior to the introduction of this revolver, accidental discharges were responsible for several deaths and injuries. Condition is near fine retaining approx. 85%-90% blue with spotting to cylinder and thinning at high edges. Straw parts have thinned and show minor carbon spotting. Grips show minor flattening. Topstrap marked ''Ja's Beattie. 205, Regent St, London''. Front right of barrel lug with small crest and ''LA/C'' (London Armory Co.). Accessories include a bronze two-cavity Robert Adams marked bullet mold cherried for ball and conical with blue English type spruecutter, marked ''54'' (bore); brass-tipped ebony cleaning rod; two rosewood-handled turn screws; English bag flask; and tall japanned tin of No. 18 caps, partial label marked ''London'', all in original purple velveteen lined oak case, with Beattie retailer's label in lid. Condition is fine to near excellent retaining approx. 94% lightly thinning and flaking blue. Case hardened cylinder remains vivid with only slight thinning to finish. Grips show minor flattening. Bore is fine. Accessories show light to moderate use with knackering to flat sides of bullet mold. Interior of case with oil staining and flattening from contact with pistol; exterior of case with light scuffs and impressions commensurate with age; partitions are somewhat loose but present.
