***Auction Highlight*** 1870-cc OC-9 Seated Liberty Dollar $1 Graded Select Unc PL By USCG. Up for Auction is a Numismatic Rarity. A Proof Like 1870-cc Stated Liberty Dollar. Variety oc-9. To Quote David Bowers of PCGS “ All Mint State Liberty Seated Carson City standard silver dollars are great rarities. At one time it was thought that the four Carson City dates in Uncirculated condition would total about 50 specimens extant. However, as the grading standards tightened up in the middle 1980s, a number of the MS-60 graded coins fell into the About Uncirculated classification. Today, specialists who study these four dates feel that only 20 to 35 Uncirculated specimens are extant. Among others who share my views is John Kroon, who, like me, has investigated the series extensively. Collectors who are trying to build l0-piece Carson City type sets [containing various denominations] in Mint State face the ultimate stopper coin, which is one of these much celebrated Carson City dollars. As of this writing, not one 1873-CC Liberty Seated dollar has been certified by the two major grading services [PCGS and NGC]. And, only a few of the other CC dates are listed as existing in this lofty grade. It is easier to locate a Mint State 1893-S Morgan dollar or 1878-CC trade dollar than to find an" 1870-CC Liberty Seated dollar in the same grade.” PCGS estimates that only 30 examples survive in uncirculated condition. The example up for auction is A medium steel-gray example of the first date of silver dollar coinage at the Carson City Mint, a mirrored proof like piece with a wealth of eye appeal. One of 11,758 examples produced, and one of the finest survivors from that mintage. Six PCGS grading events are noted at the MS-63 level for the date, with just one specimen, MS-64, and NONE to date in PL. It is noted that it was only 24 months ago that both NGC and PCGS agreed to begin grading Type cons that were PL as such. Indeed, in an era when virtually no collectors put stock in branch mint coinage, it is fairly remarkable that any Mint State pieces exist. The strike is crisp and bold in all places with just a hint of softness in Liberty's tresses, and surface disturbances by way of nicks or abrasions are at an absolute minimum. The present coin holds up admirably to in-close inspection and should satisfy any collector currently on the look-out for a high-grade example of this rare first-year-of-issue date. I wish you Good Luck in obtaining this sole PL example. Trends are known for non PL, which would be ms62 $32,500 and ms63 $42,500, but we can only estimate PL. I think ms62PL trending $45,000 and ms63pl Trending $55,000 are conservative estimates. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
