Mini is the name of a car model that was originally built between summer 1959 and autumn 2000 by the British Motor Corporation (BMC), the merger of the Austin Motor Company with the Morris Motor Company, or the successor companies British Leyland and Rover, which were created by further mergers, and by license partners (such as Innocenti (Italy), Authi (Spain) and IMA (Portugal)). Its front-wheel drive in conjunction with the innovative compact body made it a milestone in the development history of the automobile and were the starting point for the development of modern small cars. On October 4, 2000, the last original mini, technically only modified in details during the 41-year production period, rolled off the production line. The best-selling British car had thus produced a total of 5,387,862 vehicles.
