Turkish/Middle Eastern Decorated Long Gun

Lot # 1397 (Sale Order: 204 of 443)

SERIAL NUMBER: NSS DESIGN: This is an ornately decorated eastern long gun with a smoothbore 43” gold inlaid barrel. There is substantial silver application to the wood wh...moreich appears to be solid. The crude flint mechanism functions. The trigger needs a little attention. The 3” extension to the butt appears to be an add-on for a larger person. The hand that decorated it was not the one that did the rest of the gun. Not to be fired, this is an attractive and decent representation of a mid-east long gun suitable for display as-is. About .45 caliber. MATERIAL/FINISH COMPOSITION: Aged patina on decorated barrel. Hardwood stock. CONDITION: Very good. PROVENANCE: From the Estate of Roy Leckron of Franklin County, Pennsylvania INVENTORY NO./CATEGORY: 5633/NRR ESTIMATE: $400-$500

Turkish/Mid- Eastern Decorated Flint Rifle

Lot # 1398 (Sale Order: 205 of 443)

SERIAL NUMBER: NSS DESIGN: This is an ornately decorated eastern long arm with a rifled 33” gold inlaid, full octagon barrel. There are substantial metal and bone applica...moretions to the stock. The piece is about .69 caliber. The flint mechanism functions. The wood is mostly extant with a crack completely through the buttstock. Some slivers of wood and bone missing around the crack. There are hundreds of tiny brass tacks and inlays in the stock, most of which are still present. Not to be fired, this is an attractive and decent representation of a mid-east long rifle, heavier and more solidly built and fancy than many from the region. A 19th century example. MATERIAL/FINISH COMPOSITION: Aged patina on decorated barrel. Hardwood stock. Lot # 1399 (Sale Order: 206 of 443)

SERIAL NUMBER: NSS DESIGN: This Mid-Eastern piece has a smooth barrel which is 1-1/2” in diameter at the muzzle. The barrel is 26-1/2” long and flared at the muzzle. The ...morestock has much wire work, some of which needs attention. The trigger guard is mostly missing. The large flintlock is not what one would expect to find on such a gun, appearing to be more Germanic than Middle Eastern, but it fits the mortise. MATERIAL/FINISH COMPOSITION: Aged patina on barrel. 1864 U.S. Rifle Musket, Rebuilt, Cal. 58.

Lot # 1400 (Sale Order: 207 of 443)

SERIAL NUMBER: NSN DESIGN: This rifle musket has a Springfield lock dated 1864. The 40” barrel is rifled. Please note: this piece would likely make a good shooter or reen...moreactor’s piece but it has been worked over. The barrel has been cut 1-1/2” from the rear and the breech has been replaced; hence the rear sight is farther to the rear than it was when it left the arsenal. Also a threaded hole has been drilled into the barrel about 2” ahead of the rear sight. The stock shows much less use than the metal and is likely a replacement. No touch marks or proofs at rear of barrel or on the wood. This is being sold as a rebuilt piece. MATERIAL/FINISH COMPOSITION: Patina barrel. Hardwood stock. CONDITION: Good. Pa. Percussion Longrifle signed Shuler, Liverpool

Lot # 1404 (Sale Order: 211 of 443)

SERIAL NUMBER: NSN DESIGN: This mid-19th century example of a Pennsylvania long rifle has a 38” .45 caliber, full octagonal rifled barrel and is 43” overall. The stock is...more hard maple. The rifle is signed on the barrel, “J. Schuler & Co. , Liverpool, PA.” Inscribed "Worly" on the barrel. Worly (Worley) family members were barrel makers on the Wyomissing Creek in Berks County. The rifle was made as percussion and has its original lock which works. Set triggers are present and working. The 4-piece brass patchbox has been attractively engraved with a floral motif, consistent with the Shuler shop style. The finial of the box is of the “keyhole” design, a popular Lancaster style that moved up the Susquehanna as the population moved north and west from town. There are two silver inlays, one on the cheek piece and a thumb plate; both are engraved. The trigger guard and other furniture are correct to the piece. The wrist has an old, professional repair. Flaws are as follows and are all correctible: The two center barrel pin escutcheons are missing and years ago someone put some putty in those areas to preserve the wood. Putty was also applied as a stabilizer to the area that regularly burns out in front of the lock and there are cracks in the forestock that have been pasted together. Ramrod missing. MATERIAL/FINISH COMPOSITION: Metal browned. Maple stock. PROVENANCE: This lot was deaccessioned from Carson Long Military Academy which operated in New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania from 1863 to 2017. CONDITION: Good. INVENTORY NO./CATEGORY: 5632/NRR ESTIMATE: $1300-$1600

SERIAL NUMBER: NSN DESIGN: Pennsylvania O/U double gun. Top barrel .40 caliber, rifled. Bottom barrel 16 ga. shotgun. The piece is signed “D. Crum.” Daniel Crum (1841-192...more6) was a noted gunsmith whose shop was near Newport, Perry County. Perry County rifles are not commonly located today, especially in this condition. Lot # 1416 (Sale Order: 223 of 443)

Springfield Allin-type .50 cal. Trapdoor Rifle

Lot # 1418 (Sale Order: 225 of 443)

SERIAL NUMBER: 39218 DESIGN: This rifle is a single-shot trapdoor conversion of a Model 1861 Springfield rifle musket. The barrel has been sleeved down from .69 caliber t...moreo .50-70 caliber. It is of the Allin type conversion but the 32” barrel with two bands is not consistent with the standard Allin conversion length. The top of the breechblock reads “Model 1870, US” and the lock reads “US Springfield 1863” with the eagle. It is documented that some Allin conversions had shorter barrels than normal; it is unclear whether this came from the arsenal this way or was shortened later on.
