1890 ALBUMEN PHOTO ST MARY FURNESS ABBEY RUINS ENGLAND Interesting 1890-era albumen print photograph of Furness Abbey, England. The albumen print photo is mounted on a hard card mount with handwritten caption at the bottom. The entire mount measures 5.0" by 7.25". Photographer: Unmarked Date: circa 1880-1890 Handwritten on the lower mount border is: Furness Abbey Furness Abbey, or St Mary of Furness is a former Cistercian monastery situated on the outskirts of the Cumbrian town, Barrow-in-Furness. Founded in 1123 by Stephen, Count of Blois, it was built originally for the Order of Savigny. Located in the 'Valley of the Deadly Nightshade' between Dalton-in-Furness and Barrow-in-Furness, the abbey is built entirely out of local sandstone. It passed in 1147 to the Cistercians, who gradually enlarged and rebuilt the original ornate church. The majority of the current ruins date from the 12th and 13th centuries. By the 15th Century it had been completely re-modelled and had become the second richest and most powerful - as well as one of the grandest - Cistercian Abbeys in the UK, behind Fountains Abbey. It now lies in ruins and is a popular tourist attraction, lying on the Cistercian Way ? an ancient walk popular with tourists, which used to link the Abbey with the nearby town of Dalton-in-Furness. William Wordsworth visited on a number of occasions and referred to it in his famous 1805 auto-biographical poem The Prelude, whilst Turner made numerous etchings of the Abbey. Other notable tourists include the Theodore Roosevelt family. It was the first unguided visit on their European tour. A young Teddy Roosevelt and his siblings played on the ruins, which, in 1869, were not roped off or restricted. There have also been many stories of Furness Abbey being haunted by the a headless monk on horseback and a white lady. Condition of the image is very good. The mount shows very minor wear and is complete and solid.

ORIGINAL WWII ERA NINTH 9th IX CORPS PATCH WW2 KOREA I was able to acquire a small stash of original WWII era US Ninth Corps patches. Has the proper "snow" on the reverse. Colors are bright. Does not glow under a blacklight. Was found in a cigar box at the estate sale of a WWII and Korean War veteran. Condition is excellent.

Has an undivided back, and dates from the 1910 era from the style of photo. Has no writing on the reverse and has not been postally used. Condition is fair. Has some toning areas, fading and corner and edge wear.

THROUGH ARCTIC HURRICANES GERMAN FISHERY SHIP 1954 160 page, hard-back book, with dust jacket encased in Mylar, titled: "THROUGH ARCTIC HURRICANES, Adventures in a Fishery Protection Ship". By Hans G. Prager. Believed First Edition 1954, Thomas Yoseloff, publisher. Scarce book with even scarcer dust jacket! BOOK DETAILS: Here is a true story of the sea. If you are looking for something out of the ordinary to read, this is it. The author was given permission to sail in the German ship, Meerkatze, to the Arctic with his cameraman friend as an observer. He tells of the doctor's trips by rubber dinghy to attend his patients aboard the fishing boats, of rescue operations both successful and abortive, and of one of the worst hurricanes ever seen by the ship. He also describes of the Arctic skies aflame with the Northern Lights and of nosing through hour-long blizzards, which envelop the ship like fog. Included are maps and photographs. Book condition is excellent. Cloth covers shows some mild corner wear. Spine is solid. Front hinge solid, rear hinge shows cracking. Has clean text block and illustrations. NO bookplates, names or writing in the book. The SCARCE Dust Jacket shows major wear and age. Has old and new tape repairs and surface loss. The DJ is now encased in an acid free Mylar protector.

Nice clean pair of pre-owned US ARMY Army Green wool serge trousers. These are the first production of the "NEW" Army green uniform that replaced the WWII and Korean War era OD Uniforms. Complete with all buttons and has zipper fly. Tag inside reads: TROUSERS, MEN?S, WOOL, SERGE, ARMY GREEN 44, Patt Date 9 September 1954, Manufacturer: Southern Athletic Co. 15 August 1956. The waist size tag reads: WAIST-30, Length 36-LONG. The inside waistband is ink stamped with laundry number G-6513. I hand tape measured the inseam and they are 32.5". The cuffs are hemmed at 2" so they could be let out if needed. The waist hand measures to 30" Have been cleaned and pressed properly. Condition is excellent. Very nice and clean. I see a couple very small moth nip holes. I see no stains, rips or tears.

Has the wide military lapels and shoulder straps. Has 2 outer flap covered pockets. Has 6 classic Civil War style South Carolina State gold brass chest buttons. The interior of the coat has the black simulated fur full sewn in lining. Has quilted sleeve linings. Has a nice sturdy metal hanging chain sewn in the back of the neck. Has one inner pocket. Sewn to the outside of the inner pocket is a silk tag from the manufacturer; IPPOLITI. Has official Cadet store tag inside the pocket, with name space (empty) and reads in part: MADE IN USA, 07/05/96, WPL 4818. Size 38R. This beautiful overcoat is super clean and looks like it was only worn once or twice. Very heavy, it weighs 4 pounds. Hand measured I get the following outside measurements. --- Armpit to armpit measures 20 inches. --- Sleeve measures 25 inches from the shoulder seam to the cuff. --- Shoulder seam to the shoulder seam measures 18.5 inches across the back. --- Body measures 33.5 inches from the top rear collar to the rear center base. Condition is excellent. Looks like it worn just a time or two. Very clean and complete. I see no wear on neck or cuffs. VERY well taken care of. Colors are bright and clean. Has a nice enamel heart with the Loyal Order of the Moose emblem and attached by a chain is the WOTM shield. Both pieces are marked on the reverse G.F. (Gold Filled). Both have pins and locking catches on the reverse. The heart measures 14mm and the WOTM shield measures 10mm. Condition is excellent.
