World War Two veteran bring back lot featuring an Austrian sword with scabbard and original sword knot. This sword, along with four other items in this auction, was brought back by veteran Roger Hubbell of Cleveland, Ohio. The Sword is approximately 38" long with a 32.25" plated blade. The plain brown grip is stamped with the number "10". The ricasso is stamped with manufacturer marks but they are illegible. The scabbard drag is stamped "K11". Roger Hubbell of Cleveland, Ohio served in the United States Army and arrived in Germany near the end of the war. Roger was the son of Charles Hubbell, who was the world's best known artist-historian of the early aviation age. The consignor obtained this helmet and other bring back items directly from Roger Hubbell and they have been in his collection up to this time. There is a vintage tag affixed to the helmet by Hubbell which reads "Sent home from Europe by R. Hubbell". A WWII vintage note written by Hubbell and sent home with the sword is included and reads, "Coat hanger in box with sabre. Also Map, Colored Photo of Rheim(s) Cathedral. Bought sword from Marie in the evening of 13th April 46. Also took my first trip to Reim(s) this day." A 2008 dated note by Hubbell states that he obtained this sword from a female friend who received it from a member of the 101st Airborne. A photograph of the original shipping label is included. Please see lots 186,187, 189,190 for the other Hubbell bring back items. In-house shipping is available. Pickup is Monday, April 29th from 11 am to 3 pm in Carroll, Ohio 43112 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item. Once packed up we will send you an invoice for shipping & handling.
