Fine to Excellent condition - rifle - 32-1/2" rnd barrel - full length stock secured with two barrel bands - stock equipped with cleaning rod, sling swivels, adjustable leather sling , and a "US" marked buttplate - stock marked on left side between lock bolts with cartouches of Erskine S. Allin, Fredrick W. Sanderson, and William P. Taylor. Most interesting is Taylor's cartouche which has been noted on Springfield Allin conversions that were mfg. after the Civil War, however careful inspection reveals such rifles to have been assembled using recycled Civil War-period stocks. - stock remains in very good sound condition with effacing marks to left side of stock between lock bolts, as well as to be expected few handling marks/bruises to wood - barrel, barrel bands, trigger guard, and buttplate remain in bright grey patina - lock plate and hammer retains vivid case color in protected areas balance to muted case - receiver retains block balance to soft grey patina - Markings: crisp & legible- breech-block marked "1869/American Eagle head with crossed arrows/U.S.", serial number marked on left side of barrel & front left side of breech-block, lock plate marked "U.S./SRINGFIELD" & dated "1863" at rear of lock plate, double "A" stamped on left side of barrel near serial number and "X" on right side of barrel just obverse location of barrel - Sights: blade-block front sight lug/rear sight of sliding leaf type for long range - PRESTINE - served as the government standard breech-loading single shot military rifle until the 1890's - designed by Erskine S. Allin with total quantity mfg. of 51,389 - very good bright and shiny bore - mechanics appear to be in good working order - SN: 5334 - Antq - 77252
