The project involved encircling 11 uninhabited man-made islands in Miami's Biscayne Bay with 6.5 million square feet of floating, pink, woven polypropylene fabric in May 1983. The fabric created a vivid contrast with the blue water and green foliage, transforming the bay into a large-scale, temporary artwork visible from land, sea, and air. The artwork in the image is a framed piece featuring a signed print of the project and an actual sample of the pink fabric used. The installation required years of planning, extensive environmental assessments, and the collaboration of hundreds of workers. All materials used in the project were industrially recycled after the two-week installation period.
