According to the Winchester Arms Collectors Organization serial number database, this Model 63 Self-Loading semi-automatic rifle was produced in 1948. SPECS: Smooth walnut stock with glossed finish, checkered metal buttplate, 23" barrel with recessed crown, dovetailed adjustable elevator rear sight, dovetailed silver bead front sight, operating sleeve rod located on the front of the forearm and 10-round stock fed tubular magazine. CONDITION: This rifle is in nice condition with very light wear, has an excellent sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order. HISTORY: Introduced in 1933, the Model 63 Self-Loading Rifle was the first semi-auto rifle offered by Winchester chambered for the standard .22 Long Rifle cartridge. The Model 63 featured a distinctive square receiver that was a common feature of the Winchester Model 1903, 1905, 1907, and 1910 rifles. It was an attractive rifle, and sales were steady throughout the 1930s into the early 1940s when Winchester refocused its entire production capacity towards the war effort. The model was then reintroduced in 1946 after the war. Unfortunately, in the postwar period, the production of traditional real-steel-and-walnut .22 firearms became increasingly expensive, so much so that most companies began replacing them with newer designs that increasingly utilized alloys, stamped steel, and plastic components. The Model 63 was last seen in a Winchester catalog in a 1958 catalog after which it was quietly discontinued. SHIPPING - We offer free shipping anywhere within the continental US. All firearms must be sent to an FFL (or C&R if applicable) regardless of age or caliber. This includes antiques & muzzleloaders. PLEASE READ ALL TERMS BEFORE PARTICIPATING: There is no live crowd, no phone bidding, no left bids and we do not accept payment through the mail.
