Don Payton, Born in Long Beach, California, Donald Payton's journey into the world of firearms began with the call of duty as a young Marine during WWII. Through the crucible of war, he forged a deep respect for firearms and their role in shaping history. Returning home, his passion for adventure and the great outdoors propelled him into a career that would leave an indelible mark on the firearms industry. From his early days as a Marine to his ascent in the sporting goods business, Donald's trajectory was defined by a relentless pursuit of excellence. His tenure at Weaver Scopes honed his skills and laid the groundwork for his future endeavors, serving as a launching pad for a career that would span continents and shape the future of firearms manufacturing. Donald's journey reached new heights when he joined Winchester Guns & Ammo during the dynamic decades of the 1970s-1980s. With his unwavering dedication and visionary leadership, he ascended to the esteemed position of Senior Vice President, steering the company through turbulent times and cementing its legacy as a titan in the firearms industry. During his tenure with the Olin Corporation, Donald crisscrossed the globe, cultivating invaluable business relationships with luminaries such as General Jimmy Doolittle and iconic entertainers like John Wayne. Among well-known sportsmen, entrepreneurs, and fellow gun enthusiasts, Donald's magnetic personality and genuine passion for firearms left an indelible mark. Amidst his professional endeavors, Donald remained steadfast in his commitment to preserving firearms heritage. His pivotal role in establishing the Cody, Wyoming Winchester Museum ensured that the legacy of Winchester's craftsmanship would endure for generations. Central to Donald's legacy is his prized collection of Winchester Model 1894 Commemoratives, each bearing his unique "serial number" ending in '72'. These rifles are a testament to his dedication to preserving history. Meticulously preserved and new in the box with hang tags, they represent the pinnacle of firearms excellence. As Donald's remarkable journey comes full circle, his collection stands as a testament to a lifetime of passion and dedication. Each gun offers enthusiasts a piece of firearms history curated by a true legend in the industry. The items in this catalog marked with an asterisk(*) are from the Don Payton collection.
Fred A. Huntington is the son of Fred T. Huntington, a a dedicated shooter who found it difficult to obtain quality bullets. After reading a gunsmithing book, he began to craft his own dies in the back room of his father's laundry business. RCBS was founded in 1943 by Fred T. Huntington. It became known around the world for high-quality reloading equipment. RCBS was purchased by Omark Industries 1976. Later that year, Fred T. Huntington and his two sons, Fred A. and Charles, together opened Huntington's Sportsman's Store. Opening in July 1976 in Oroville, Ca., the store sold dies, guns, and ammunition. After Fred T.'s passing in 1998, Fred A. & Charles "Buzz" continued to operate the store and Huntington Dies Specialties.  Now Fred A., 85, has retired to enjoy his remaining years work-free. Fred A. closed the store in October 2023 after 50 years in business. This was a heartbreaking decision for the family and for the loyal customers. But what a great tribute to the man who started it all.  Per the consignor, several of the firearms in this collection were originally owned by Fred T. Huntington and were once on display at Huntington's Sportsman's Store as part of their unique "museum" display.  All of the firearms from Fred A's collection are noted with two asterisks (**).
