From the Joe Musso collection. Believe from the the time of the 2nd Empire of Maximilian I; 6 July 1832 – 19 June 1867) was an Austrian archduke who became emperor of the Second Mexican Empire from 10 April 1864 until his execution by the Mexican Republic on 19 June 1867. Lot is contained in a beautiful wood Mexican epaulet box with brass fittings, and red silk lining. The interior lid has the Mexican Eagle/Snake with "Mexico" under it in gold, form fitted. A quality pair of silver bullion Mexican army Captains Epaulets, French made with Eagle/Snake buttons, blue felt underside. Although this box was made for epaulets with tassels, officers would have different epaulets, parade, daily service. Nice carte de visite of Maximilian in dress uniform, signed on the back is Emp. of Mexico" in French, very old handwriting, definitely period. A nice Mexican officer's silver plated brass note book with Eagle/Snake in wreath on the cover. Eagle/Snake uniform button. A silver cap badge with Mexican eagle, and a period hand painted lead soldier of a Mexican officer. These original items are very scarce to find these days. Box has some scuffs & separation on the sides.
