J.H.FERGUSSON (1892-1953) ORIGINAL WATERCOLOR MILITARY UNIFORM PLATE . CUIRASSIERS AND LEIB GRENADIER GUARDS 1735-1785. 15 X 11 PLATE. DOUBLE. PICTURES ON BOTH SIDES. DATE OF CREATION :1938-1947.WE WERE FORTUNATE TO COME BY AN ESTATE COLLECTION OF ORIGINAL WATERCOLORS BY J.H.FERGUSSON AND WILL BE OFFERING A SERIES OF HIS ORIGINAL WATERCOLORS IN OUR FORTHCOMING AUCTIONS.IN 1938 Mr. FERGUSSON WAS COMMISSIONED BY PINEWOOD STUDIOS , AN ENGLISH MOTION PICTURE FILM COMPANY, TO RESEARCH AND CREATE SETS OF ARTWORK PLATES DEPICTING CORRECT AND DETAILED CLOTHING ATTIRE AND UNIFORMS WORN BY EARLY MILITARY PERSONNEL FROM ANCIENT ROME THROUGH THE 1800'S. DURING THE 1940S THESE WONDERFULLY DETAILED COLOR PLATES WERE USED BY PINEWOOD STUDIOS FOR REFERENCE TO CREATE CLOTHING AND UNIFORMS DEPICTED IN THEIR MOTION PICTURES. MR. FERGUSSON SPENT A GREAT DEAL OF TIME VISITING AND RESEARCHING VARIOUS EUROPEAN LIBRARIES ,MUSEUMS, AND PRIVATE MILITARY COLLECTIONS TO INSURE HIS ARTWORK CORRECTLY DEPICTED WITH GREAT DETAIL THE CLOTHING , UNIFORMS ,WEAPONS AND COLORS WORN DURING THE PERIODS.
