Item Description: Translate description
Lot consists of: (A) Model 1881 cavalry dress helmet. Composed of a dark blue-black wool cloth pressed over a cork inner body shell. Trimmed with a 1” decorative leather band and 1/4” visor edging. All brass hardware is present and firmly affixed to the helmet. Federal spread eagle plate superimposed over a set of crossed sabers, oak leaf designed crown base with plume socket shaft, crossed saber side buttons, plus 2 split rings and small brass decorated bases. The red branch of service horsehair plume is intact with nice color. Original 1-piece Triplett and wool cords. The 2” sweatband is intact. The sweatband is supple with red oval contract stamp on left and right sides. Interior crown is marked "HORSTMANN BROS & CO. / PHILADELPHIA" on plume holder. Body remains sturdy with a few soft spots and blemishes to trim. CONDITION: Good. (B) M1890 officer's dress helmet. Dark blue-black wool cloth construction with leather sweatband and deluxe blue lining. The helmet is cased with its detached spike and plume, as well as a pair of white gloves. Interior lid is exhibits the original Henderson Ames Company label. In 1893, Henderson merged his company with Ames Sword Company forming what became The Henderson-Ames Company. The helmet has some soft spots. Case is intact and sturdy with some tarnishing on both interior and exterior. CONDITION: Good.
