Great lot of WW2 1st Cavalry Division soldier who fought in New Guinea, the Admiralty Islands, Leyte, and Luzon, Phillipine islands.. Corporal Phillip B. Gilbert who was a mortar man serving in the 8th cavalry regiment.. He enlisted pre-war in January, 1941 and was discharged on 16th September, 1945. A brief history of his service, including witnessing MacArthur wading ashore, etc, written by his nephew is provided. Lot includes his uniform shirt, two pairs of Cavalry M1908"Jodhpur" riding pants, three WW2 1st Cavalry Division patches, rare 1942 dated army issued :Fort Bliss" license plate, pre-WW2 round dog tag with his name and service number, two eagle cap badges with his US, and crossed swords collar devices, Nookey ration card, copy of his discharge, two photos of him in uniform, one copy, one original, 42 dated M10 tool roll, pre-war rare "Team Super" Austria cigarette lighter "Fort Dix N.J." with 1st army insignia, brass army belt buckle and pin with 1st cavalry insignia with red horses head and star on black stripe, believe pre-war, Expert badge with mortar bar, Sharpshooter badge rifle bar, and Marksman badge with Pistol-D bar, good conduct ribbon, American defense ribbon, pacific campaign ribbon with 4 battle stars, 3 IJA brass buttons, two navy, one army, Japanese 6.5mm bullet, pulled brass grenade pin. and other misc. pieces, ration tokens, etc., Japanese 36x26 silk good luck flag, blood stained, signed by numerous men of his unit, with their home towns, good condition, intact. His nephew states his Uncle obtained this flag in the Phillipine Islands, the 1st cavalry was the first to enter Manila. A great 1st Cav, grouping.
