His military career began in 1920 when he enlisted in the Missouri National Guard (MNG). In 1929, he was commissioned as a Unit Commander in the MNG's 140th Infantry Regiment. At the onset of World War II, then a Captain and Commanding Officer of Company "L," 3rd Battalion, 137th Regiment, 35th Division, Meyers deployed to England in May 1944 and landed on Omaha Beach on July 5, 1944. On October 8, 1944, during an assault on a heavily defended town, Meyers demonstrated extraordinary leadership. Under intense enemy fire, he led his unit effectively and personally conducted several reconnaissance missions to ensure the mission's success. His actions earned him the Silver Star. After the war, Meyers continued his service in the Army Reserves, focusing on training roles before serving in Korea. He eventually attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Later in his career, he transitioned to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2 before retiring in the early 1960s. Meyers passed away in 2002 at the age of 96. He is buried at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery in Missouri.
