SN: 8174432. A fantastic Vietnam War grouping including a Vietnam War capture Gun. Patterned directly after the Russian SKS infantry rifle, the Chinese Type 56 was among the assortment of small arms fielded by the main line and irregular elements of North Vietnam during the Vietnam War. This SKS was manufactured in 1963. Bore is very good condition. Folding bayonet, post front and tangent rear sights, with the left side of the receiver showing the "26" in triangle factory mark. (Jiansh factory 26), 3 Chinese letters meaning "type 56", and the serial number, with matching partial numbers on the, receiver cover, magazine, trigger guard and stock. mismatched bolt, but wear and finish matches the rest of the rifle, been together a long time. Correct green canvass sling. Of course no import marks. The rifle has seen hard use. The Vietnamese name of "Tran Thai Hung" is carved in the right stock above the grip, definitely period done. NVA or Viet Cong. This is from the estate of Capt. Harold C. Brown, Jr. USAF, who was a fighter pilot and the ALO (Air Liaison Officer) with the Army's 1st Air Cavalry Division. Also included is a box shipped home containing a NVA Pith Helmet with Vietnamese writing inside, and "No.1 Gook Killer" written on the front, a NVA belt with star on buckle, Chinese type 81 ammo/grenade vest used by the NVA/Viet Cong, and a ChiCom type 53 SKS oiler. Also has the Customs Declaration filled out by Capt. Brown listing these items as "War Trophies", Dated June 2nd, 1969. Also in this lot is Capt. Brown's Vietnam era USAF Jet Pilot's Survival / Fighting knife, 6'' blade, early Vietnam period. Deep fuller to both sides of blade, sawback spine on the clip-point blade. Brown leather stacked handle. Full hilt bears two drilled holes. Sheath is complete with sharpening stone in pouch. Marked with his name on back of scabbard. We contacted Mrs. Brown to try to acquire the capture papers, who if she finds them she will send them to us, in turn we will pass it on to the buyer. She did state in an email to us that Capt. Brown sent two rifles back from Vietnam, stating "One of the rifles has a Viet Cong name carved into it". Copy provided. The other rifle is also a Chinese Type 56 SKS, which is in this action. Even without the capture papers this rifle has impeccable provenance NRA Condition-Good. C&R Firearm.
