PISTOL AND TYPE 99 SNIPER RIFLE. 1) IMPERIAL JAPANESE TORIIMATSU SERIES 2 TYPE 14 SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 8mm Nambu. S# 36117. Bbl. 4 5/8". Series 2. Type 14 semi-automatic pistol, mfg. at the Toriimatsu factory under Nagoya supervision in May of 1944. The left side of the frame exhibits Kanji markings stipulating the model designation, with the Nagoya Arsenal insignia and series number followed by the S# above "19.5" marked on the right. Metal components exhibit a blue fish overall. Frame is mounted with 2-piece grooved wood grips. All numbers are matching and include the frame, bbl./bbl. extension, trigger guard, cocking knob, bolt, firing pin, locking block, mag. release button, as well as the grips. Mag. is numbered "617" on the spine. Firing pin is clipped. MAGS: 1 - 8 rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: rubberized canvas clam shell holster marked "MAILER" on the interior of the closure flap. CONDITION: metal components retain a majority of their original arsenal blue finish, exhibiting some spots of light to mild wear, with some scattered handling marks present overall. Mirror bore, exhibiting well-defined rifling throughout. Wood grips show some scattered marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. Holster exhibits mild exterior wear, with some deterioration present on the ammunition pouch closure flap and along the edges of the main closure flap. (23-7485/MLW). 2) SCARCE NAGOYA TYPE 99 BOLT ACTION SNIPER RIFLE. Cal. 7..7 S# 9447. Bbl. 26". Type 99 bolt-action sniper rifle mfg. at the Nagoya Arsenal during WWII. The top of the receiver exhibits a chrysanthemum with two strike marks through the center, above Kanji characters denoting the model designation, with the receiver bridge exhibiting the Nagoya Arsenal insignia above the S#. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall. Two-piece wood buttstock and wood handguard. Left side of the receiver features a swept-back dovetailed scope base that is fitted with an externally adj. 4x scope mfg. by Kogaku. Matching numbers are present on the receiver, bolt body, extractor, and safety knob. Firing pin is unnumbered, and the dust cover is mismatched. Interior of the scope mount is numbered "4740". Stock is fitted with an appropriate period brown leather sling. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: cleaning rod & monopod. CONDITION: metal components retain good amounts of their original arsenal blue finish, exhibiting wear and thinning overall with some scattered spots of light to mild surface oxidation. Dust cover exhibits oxidation overall. Mirror bore, exhibiting well-defined rifling throughout. Stock shows scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. Scope retains a clear optic, showing scattered black flecks. Sling remains malleable and exhibits some wear and some light crazing overall. (23-7486/MLW). NOTE: Although there is no documentation accompanying this Type 14 pistol and Type 99 Sniper rifle, the consignor states that he purchased these firearms directly from the estate of the veteran who captured them. PROVENANCE: rifle and pistol from the Working Reference Collection of Military Arms Instructor, Master Sergeant Vincent Pestilli. BOTH CURIO. $4,000-6,000.
