Cal. 8mm. S# 51104. Bbl. 22". The original Zastava M76 rifle in the impressive 8mm chambering has always been a desirable offering. They first made their splash in the United States in 1986 w/ an initial order of 400 rifles, that would be in a configuration that today is known as pre-ban. It would be over a decade before imports would resume. In that period of time they had built a fairly strong following. It appeared that demand would finally be met when 2,000 more were approved for import & sold out in just over 10 days. In a disastrous turn of events the ATF declared every previously approved rifle to be a machine gun due to the oversight of the original mfg. installing a safety sear, which required a dreaded 3rd hole in the receiver. They were all recalled & every firearm was torch cut. This example is a beautiful M76 built on a gorgeous milled receiver by Assault Weapons of Ohio. The new receiver sports serial number 51104, matching the original parts kit including stock & bolt carrier. Left side scope rail on receiver, currently sporting the correct ZRAK scope w/ M76B reticle. Dark black finish on all exposed metal surfaces. Front sight base is integral w/ an M14 style flash hider & is protected post. Elevation adj. tangent rear sight graduated to 1000 yards. Sight radius just over 21". The operating system is a gas operated rotating bolt system like utilized in the AK47 platform & is adj. for gas pressure. Beautiful blond wood w/ a red tint for forearm, pistol grip & shoulder stock. Sling swivels front & rear w/ green canvas sling. MAGS: 2 steel 10 rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Canvas scope cover, black plastic carry case. CONDITION: All aspects indicate this rifle was very well maintained & cared for. At first glance it wasn't clear it had been fired but close inspection demonstrates some ejecting brass contact upon extraction and a fine line on the receiver where the safety / selector makes contact. Bore is bright w/ strong rifling. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. PROVENANCE: From the Working Reference Collection of Military Arms Instructor, Master Sergeant Vincent Pestilli. (23-7553/JZ). MODERN. $1,500-2,500.
