Fine to Excellent condition - Late Brass Frame rifle - 24" octagon& integral w/tube magazine barrel - exceptionally nice oil stained straight grip walnut stock; equipped with brass crescent buttplate with trapdoor & sling fittings. Stock condition is Very Good with few handling marks and small chip to heel. - retains about 85%+ brown patina with loss to sharp edges of barrel. Receiver & buttplate retains warm, butterscotch patina. Lever black - Markings: legible- "HENRY'S PATENT.OCT.16.1860/MANUFACTURED BY THE NEWHAVEN ARMS CO. NEWHAVEN, CT.", "H" inspector mark stamped on tang, serial # stamped at top of breech end of barrel - Matching numbers on barrel, stock and buttplate! - Sights: no front sight/rear adjustable leaf sight - Noted to be the most revolutionary shoulder weapon introduced in the Civil War. Most favored of all arms by the Cavalry and Infantry. “It’s a rifle that you could load on Sunday and shoot all week long.” This highly desirable rifle has a full length 15 shot tubular magazine with intact spring and lever latch feature. Good bore with small area of roughness. Fine example of an historic firearm that preceded the Winchester Repeating Rifle Co. Possibly a private purchase civilian soldier rifle. The serial number, 9103 within many other documented Henry rifles of the Civil War period. Henry rifle, serial #9223 belonging to a citizen whom joined CO. E 2nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Corp. aka 31st Pennsylvania Infantry. This unit was recruited in Philadelphia and fought in the Peninsular Campaign, Second Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg and Gettysburg.(^) Henry Rifle serial #8768 used in Co. I, 3rd U.S. Veteran Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War and was issued to Private Andrew Weyland on May 13, 1865. (^) - Yr. Mfg.: 1865 - SN: 9103 - Antq - 9021
