Fine condition - rifle - 24" oct barrel - walnut straight grip stock equipped with side sling swivel on left side of stock and a brass rounded crescent butt plate; stock is in Excellent sound condition with to be expected light handling marks - butt plate has matching serial number "2915" on back side of plate - retains a golden aged brass patina frame and butt plate, with to be expected visible handling/battle marks to receiver - barrel and magazine retain a blue balance to brown patina finish - Markings: crisp & legible- 2-line barrel address "HENRY'S PATENT OCT. 16, 1860./MANUFACT'D BY THE NEW HAVEN ARMS, CO. NEW HAVEN, CT." - Sights: front silver blade/adjustable folding leaf rear sight graduating from 1 to 8 - Although this Henry rifle's serial number is not found in the Springfield Research Database, the possibilities are endless when considering other close serial numbered rifles in the Civil War. According to the database serial number 2826 was assigned to CO K 3rd US VET VOL INF & serial number 3035 was assigned to CO H 3rd US VET VOL INF (information provided by lsbauctions.com). Serial number 2523 AND 2575 were carried by a member of the 66th Illinois Volunteers in the Civil War. Many of these members purchased their own rifles rather than carry any Gov't issued arm. Governor Yates of Illinois armed some of his men of the 64th Illinois Infantry, a.k.a. "Yates Sharpshooters" with Henry rifles. Rifle serial numbered 3183 was shipped from the factory in 1863 by the Adams Express Company to Illinois. This Henry was possibly used by a member of CO G, many men of this regiment purchased their own rifles at a cost of $41.00. - Yr. Mfg.: 1863 - SN: 2915 - Antq - 70662
