Lot # 613 (Sale Order: 479 of 1880)

1853 Braided Hair Half Cent 1/2c Grades xf details. Per Ron Guth of PCGS : The Braided Hair half cents boast some of the lowest mintages of any U.S. coin types and are a...moremong the best values, as well. Every date in this type boasts a low mintage. By way of comparison, the mintage of the any Braided hair Half Cent is almost a fraction of the mintage of the 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent (a far more valuable coin), making this an excellent value.

1936-d Rhode Island Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Grades GEM+ Unc

Lot # 631 (Sale Order: 491 of 1880)

1936-d Rhode Island Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Grades GEM+ Unc. The commemorative coin most commonly referred to as the 1936 Rhode Island Tercentenary Half Dollar (Buy o...moren eBay) was actually issued to mark the 300th anniversary of the founding of Providence by Roger Williams. The maximum authorized mintage was 50,000 pieces, of which the entire amount was produced across three mint facilities and distributed to the public.Designs for the coins were created by John Howard Benson and Arthur Graham Carey. Their original models did include reference to the Providence with inscriptions around the outer edge of the coin on the obverse “In a scene of God’s Merciful providence until me, called the place Providence” and on the reverse “State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantation Tercentenary”. These lengthy inscriptions were not used in the final version of the design. The obverse features a scene of John Williams in a canoe, holding a bible, and greeting a Native American who stands on the shore extending a hand. The “sun of religious liberty” appears in the background. The reverse design features an anchor and shield motif, adopted from the Rhode Island state seal. These designs were struck in low relief, but with sharply designed elements that resemble a woodcut.Including pieces struck for assay, the Philadelphia Mint produced 20,013, the Denver Mint 15,010, and the San Francisco Mint 15,011. The Rhode Island Half Dollars were issued for $1 each and said to have sold out quickly, however it was later suspected that some insiders held back portions of their allotments in order to sell them to the public at higher prices after the so-called sell out.Due to the nature of the design, contact marks may be prominent on the obverse and reverse. A small number of the coins are found with proof like surfaces, and these pieces command a premium.

Sealed 2004 United States Mint Set in Original Government Shipped Box, Never Opened! 22 Coins Inside

Lot # 638 (Sale Order: 497 of 1880)

Sealed 2004 United States Mint Set in Original Government Shipped Box, Never Opened! 22 Coins Inside!. The scope of the US Mint’s annual coin set expanded with the...more 2004 Mint Set. The number of coins per set rose from 20 to 22 pieces. This year two different designs were issued for the five cent piece, as part of the Westward Journey Nickel series to commemorate the Louisiana Purchase and the exploration of the western territories by explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. The obverse of the 2004 nickels remained the same portrait of Jefferson, while the reverse carried a depiction of the keelboat used in the expedition and a peace medal given to local inhabitants in the territories. Still in progress was also the design series for the 50 State Quarters Program, which had begun in 1999. For this year, the reverse designs of the quarters featured Michigan, Florida, Texas, Iowa, and Wisconsin. These coins honored the twenty sixth to thirtieth states to join the union. Remaining coins within the annual uncirculated coin set were the Lincoln Cent, Roosevelt Dime, Kennedy Half Dollar, and Sacagawea Dollar. At this point in time, the two largest denominations were not issued for circulation, but only included in collector and numismatic products. Packaging for the set highlighted the new nickel designs, putting large sized images of the coins at the center of each envelope. The other coins were depicted in smaller scale to the side of the envelope. Get your hands on this never opened 2004 mint set!
