1942 Malaya Under Japanese Occupation (JIM) 1 Cent Note P# M1B Grades Gem CU

Lot # 1676 (Sale Order: 8 of 1252)

1942 Malaya Under Japanese Occupation (JIM) 1 Cent Note P# M1B Grades Gem CU. After Japanese forces occupied Malaya early in 1942, they introduced new currency not...morees. Because the $10 note carried a picture of a banana plant, the wartime currency was referred to as banana money. For the first two years of the occupation, the Japanese maintained monetary discipline and kept circulation of this currency under control. However, with the country’s trading economy at a standstill, there was little to tax and, in order to fund the civil administration and purchase supplies for the military, the Japanese began printing more and more money. In December 1940, the active circulation of currency in Malaya was 120 million dollars. By the middle of 1945, the Japanese may have printed 4,000 million dollars, and the active circulation was 30 times greater than before the war. The predictable result was hyperinflation.

1961 Russia (Soviet) 1 Ruble Banknote P# 222a Grades vf+

Lot # 1686 (Sale Order: 13 of 1252)

1961 Russia (Soviet) 1 Ruble Banknote P# 222a Grades vf+. The "Sixth Soviet Ruble" was issued first in 1961, and the designs for both the non-commemorative coins a...morend paper currency of the Soviet Union almost remained identical from 1961 nearly until the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. Briefly before the Soviet Union fell, there was the monetary reform of 1991 and the release of the Seventh Soviet Ruble, with designs that were fairly similar to the 1961 Rubles. Interestingly, the 500 Ruble note only existed for 2 days before the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the 1000 Soviet Ruble note only came into existence 3 months after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Some Soviet banknotes were printed and remained in use in various ex-Soviet states in 1992-1993, still utilizing the 1991 Soviet designs.

Lot # 1688 (Sale Order: 15 of 1252)

1942 Malaysia (Japanese WWII Occupation) 1 Cent Note P#?M1b Grades Select CU. Japanese invasion money, officially known as Southern Development Bank Notes (Japane...morese: ??????? Dai T?-A Sens? gunpy?, "Greater East Asia War military scrip"), was currency issued by the Japanese Military Authority as a replacement for local currency after the conquest of colonies and other states in World War II. Japan printed this currency for many countries, including Malaysia, Singapore, North Borneo, Sarawak, Burma, Brunei, and several Oceania territories controlled by Australia. Some Japanese invasion notes are actually counterfeits produced by the American Office of Strategic Services or the British Special Operations Executive, meant to flood and destabilize the economy in the occupied areas, sometimes also including propaganda printed on the notes themselves.
