Group of 2 United States Mint Proof Sets 1978-1979 12 coins

Lot # 12 (Sale Order: 10 of 2136)

Group of 2 United States Mint Proof Sets 1978-1979 12 coins. Group of 2 United States Proof Sets 1978-1979 12 coins. The 1978 Proof Set the number of coins to six....more The sets now included the Eisenhower Dollar, Kennedy Half Dollar, Washington Quarter, Roosevelt Dime, Jefferson Nickel, and Lincoln Cent. The quality of the coins found in 1978 Proof Sets is generally excellent. Nearly all coins encountered will have deep cameo finishes. Some 1978 Proof coins have received perfect grades of PR70DCAM or PF 70 Ultra Cameo from PCGS or NGC. The 1979 Proof Set saw the debut of the new design and size for the one dollar coin. The Susan B. Anthony Dollar was sized slightly larger than the quarter. the obverse of the coin featured the woman’s suffrage figure’s portrait and the reverse carried over the prior design from the Eisenhower Dollar on a smaller canvas. The 1979 proof coins contained in the sets carry two different styles of mint marks, known as Type 1 or Type 2. Type 1 mint marks have the area inside the letter filled, while Type 2 mint marks are clear and flat on top. The rarity of the Type 2 version varies by denomination, with the Susan B. Anthony Dollar being the rarest and carrying the highest premium, trending pr69 $65. The packaging for the 1979 Proof Set remained unchanged from the prior year with one exception. A round plastic ring was fitted into the large slot reserved for the dollar coin to accommodate the denomination’s new size. The packaging would be redesigned in the following year, specifically for the small size dollar.

Group of 2 United States Mint Set in Original Government Packaging! From 1999-2000 with 20 Coins Ins

Lot # 28 (Sale Order: 22 of 2136)

Group of 2 United States Mint Set in Original Government Packaging! From 1999-2000 with 20 Coins Inside!. The 1999 Mint Set saw the number of coins increased to 18...more, and separate envelopes would be provided for the Philadelphia and Denver Mint coins to accommodate the larger format. The expansion of the set was the result of the launch of the 50 State Quarters Program. The quarter dollar would feature five different reverse designs per year, featuring the states in the order they joined the union. Each 1999 Mint Set contained the first five quarter designs featuring Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, and Connecticut. The additional coins included the 1999 Lincoln Cents, Jefferson Nickels, Roosevelt Dimes, and Kennedy Half Dollars. For each coin, there was one example each from the Philadelphia and Denver Mint facilities. Packaging consisted of two separate envelopes themed in blue and red. The blue envelope contained the nine coins produced at the Philadelphia Mint, while the red envelope contained the coins of the Denver Mint. A complete set as issued consists of both envelopes and all of the coins pictured above. The US Mint’s annual uncirculated coin set would undergo another expansion. The 2000 Mint Set contained a total of 20 different coins from the Philadelphia and Denver Mints, with denominations from one cent to one dollar. The increased number of coins was the result of the introduction of the Sacagawea Dollar. Frequently referred to as the “golden dollar,” this was the latest attempt to create a circulating $1 coin. The small sized format of the previous Susan B. Anthony Dollar was retained, but the coins were given a golden color, plain edge, and new design. Despite wide publicity, the coins never achieved widespread circulation. Each 2000 Mint Set contained Philadelphia and Denver Mint examples of the Lincoln Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Kennedy Half Dollar, and Sacagawea Dollar. The State Quarters Program also continued with five designs featuring Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire, and Virginia. Starting with this year, the mint tokens which had previously been included in the sets were eliminated to make space for the new $1 coins. Coins were arranged in four different cellophane packs, divided based on the mint facility and denomination. The two packs of coins from the Philadelphia Mint were placed within an envelope designed in blue, while the two packs of coins from the Denver Mint were in a red colored envelope. A certificate of authenticity including coin specifications were placed within one of the envelopes.
