***Auction Highlight*** SS Central America 1/4oz Silver Medallion W/ Placer Gold & 49'er Gold From S

Lot # 414 (Sale Order: 282 of 608)

***Auction Highlight*** SS Central America 1/4oz Silver Medallion W/ Placer Gold & 49'er Gold From SS Centeral America. The California Gold Rust Triumph and Traged...morey with the cry of "Gold in California" in 1848 the united states was overcome with gold fever. Many of the men abord the Ill-fated SS Central America had amassed fortunes panning for gold nuggets unfortunately, those same miners and 425 other souls lost their lives when the ship sank during a hurricane in 1857. the SS Central America Remained Undiscovered until the 1980's wem to was found in over 8000 Ft of water off the coast of north Carolina. This Medallion contains a piece of placer gold recovered from the wreck of the ill-fated terser ship SS central America. CALIFORNIA GOLD RUSH GOLD S.S. CENTRAL AMERICA. In the early days of the gold rush era California was a "Gold Dust" Economy. Paper Money was not yet trusted and there was an extreme shortage of trustworthy coinage. as a result, gold dust & Nuggets were a primary medium of exchange and commerce. for example a "pinch" from a pouch of dust could be used as payment for a saloon libation after a miners long hard day in the gold fields. over 25 LBS of gold dust and nuggets were recovered from the 1857 Shipwreck of the SS Central amerai some 8000 Ft deep in the Atlantic. the gold contained in this holder was in the storage hold of the SS Cantal America.

Lot # 433 (Sale Order: 294 of 608)

***Auction Highlight*** 1894-p Morgan Dollar $1 Graded Select+ Unc By USCG. The 1894 is a conditionally challenging Morgan dollar issue with the second lowest mint...moreage in the series after the 1893-S (110,000 coins struck). Most Uncirculated examples survive in lower Mint State grades. This frosty representative nearly qualifies for the next highest grade level. Marks are minimal, especially in the fields, and the strike is strong. Virtually untoned with silver-grey surfaces,

***Auction Highlight*** 1922-s Saint-Gaudens $20 Gold Double Eagle Graded ms65 By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 436 (Sale Order: 297 of 608)

***Auction Highlight*** 1922-s Saint-Gaudens $20 Gold Double Eagle Graded ms65 By SEGS. This impressive Gem exhibits subtle olive undertones to dominant orange-gol...mored patina. Both sides are fully struck and display with a smooth, satiny texture that is superior to what is typically offered in a 1922-S double eagle. The 1922-S once ranked among the leading rarities in the Saint-Gaudens double eagle series of 1907 to 1933, even placing ahead of such highly touted issues as the 1920-S, 1929, 1930-S, 1931 and 1932. It is almost certainly the case that the majority of the 2,658,000-piece mintage remained undistributed in government vaults, the coins being melted in 1937. Beginning in the 1950s, however, small quantities began turning up overseas in the holdings of foreign banks, mostly European although in 1983 a hoard of nearly 200 examples turned up in Central America. Many of the exported coins were melted overseas -- the fate of most U.S. gold coins that left these shores as part of the export trade. The eventual repatriation of the survivors readjusted the overall rarity ranking of the 1922-S within the Saint-Gaudens series. These coins provide today's collectors with a nice pool of Mint State examples from which to choose. In spite of the appearance of the aforementioned pieces, the 1922-S still ranks among the scarcer double eagles of the Saint-Gaudens type. Writing in the 2008 revision to David W. Akers' classic work A Handbook of 20th Century United States Gold Coins: 1907-1933, your cataloger [JLA] ranks the 1922-S 19th out of the 53 issues in this series in terms of total number of Mint State coins known. What's more, the vast majority of Mint State coins in today's market are confined to the MS-60 to MS-63 grade range. Even so, this issue remains scarce in solidly graded, attractive MS-64, and is regarded as an important condition rarity in Gem Mint State. In fact, there are probably fewer than 30 or 35 examples of this issue extant that grade MS-65 or finer -- a paltry total especially considering the popularity of the Saint-Gaudens double eagle series among advanced collectors. The example we are offering here represents an important bidding opportunity, and it is sure to see spirited competition. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** 1885-o Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms67+ By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 439 (Sale Order: 300 of 608)

***Auction Highlight*** 1885-o Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms67+ By SEGS. This brilliant, intensely lustrous example exhibits a smooth and frosty texture to both sides...more. Fully struck. The 1885-O was produced in generous numbers (9,185,000 pieces) and, more important to its availability in today's market, was widely represented in government releases from the 1930s through the early to mid 1960s. Thanks to these releases, the 1885-O is one of the most available Morgan silver dollars. However, no issue in this perennially popular and widely collected series is plentiful in the finest Mint State grades, as here. An important opportunity for the discerning collector.
