Lang of the 62nd Virginia Mounted Calvary - falling mortally wounded on Sept. 5 1864 (died on the 6th) while in command at Steph...moreen's Depot near Bunker Hill, VA. - Burger & Brother produced slightly more than 7,000 edged weapons for the Confederacy between the outbreak of the war and May of 1862 when they sold their business - Burger & Brothers knives are quite rare and do not appear for sale very often, particularly with such a clear maker's mark on the ricasso - etched 8.75" single edge knife - blade retains soft grey patina with legible etching reading "CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA" with American Eagle Coat of Arms, while obverse is marked "LT. COL. DAVID B. LANG 62 VA. REGT. C.S.A." with floral scroll work - ricasso marked "BURGER & BROS.", while obverse is marked "RICHMOND, VA." - Silver Nickel crossguard and pommel cap - stag horn handle - overall length 14" - overall condition is Excellent
