Allin, Fredrick W. Sanderson, and William P. Taylor. Most interesting is Taylor's cartouche which has been noted on Springfield Allin conversions that were mfg. after the Civil War, however careful inspection reveals such rifles to have been assembled using recycled Civil War-period stocks. - stock remains in very good sound condition with effacing marks to left side of stock between lock bolts, as well as to be expected few handling marks/bruises to wood - barrel, barrel bands, trigger guard, and buttplate remain in bright grey patina - lock plate and hammer retains vivid case color in protected areas balance to muted case - receiver retains block balance to soft grey patina - Markings: crisp & legible- breech-block marked "1869/American Eagle head with crossed arrows/U.S.", serial number marked on left side of barrel & front left side of breech-block, lock plate marked "U.S./SRINGFIELD" & dated "1863" at rear of lock plate, double "A" stamped on left side of barrel near serial number and "X" on right side of barrel just obverse location of barrel - Sights: blade-block front sight lug/rear sight of sliding leaf type for long range - PRESTINE - served as the government standard breech-loading single shot military rifle until the 1890's - designed by Erskine S. Very Good to Fine condition - rifle - 32-5/8" rnd barrel - Civil War Era rifle-musket - full length stock secured with two barrel bands - stock equipped with cleaning ro...mored, sling swivels, adjustable leather sling , and a "US" marked buttplate - stock marked at the top of the tang with hand carved initials "WW", on left side between lock bolts with cartouches of Erskine S. Allin & Fredrick W. Sanderson, as well as an unidentified armorer who inspected rifle-muskets at the Springfield Armory during the Civil War, leaving the initials "JG" in a script-letter cartouche - stock remains in very good sound condition with to be expected few handling marks/bruises to wood - receiver, barrel, buttplate, and trigger guard retain bright grey patina freckled with age spots throughout - lock plate retains muted case in protected areas only balance to soft grey patina - Markings: crisp & legible- breech-block marked "1869/American Eagle head with crossed arrows/U.S.", lock plate marked "U.S./SRINGFIELD" & dated "1863" at rear of lock plate, and barrel bands marked with little "U" - Sights: blade-block front sight lug/rear sight of sliding leaf type for long range - served as the government standard breech-loading single shot military rifle until the 1890's - designed by Erskine S.
