Sako Custom Varmint .222 Rem
Excellent as per muzzle edges condition - rifle - 24" tapered, heavy barrel - Unusual wood and finish looks somewhat like tiger stripe maple, or similar, that has been stained and oil finished. The wood has a deep reddish brown color and medium gloss hand rubbed oil finish. The stock has a rollover cheek piece, Rosewood stock tip and grip cap, and ebony or similar, inlays. Wood finish appears to be about 100%. - blue, about 99.9% (very slight wear at muzzle corner edges). - Markings: Crisp- "BOFORS STEEL" with Bofors B and arrow symbol proof along right side of bbl. below engravings; "Cal. 222" across top of bbl. at breech & on floor of receiver on magazine. - Sights: Scope mounts are Leupold. The scope is a Leupold 12X with A.O. with large target/varmint windage/elevation adjusting knobs. Rubber scope caps. This scope looks brand new and may be an update. - Custom varmint rifle. Pre 1972, pre Vixen and pre Garcia import L46 (not later L461) short action, with detachable magazine. This engraved beauty looks virtually brand new and is almost too nice to shoot. 24" tapered heavy varmint barrel. Barrel Factory drilled and tapped for scope blocks. The barrel and receiver are deep, relief cut scroll engraved. Receiver engraving coverage is about 100%. The trigger guard and bottom of the detachable magazine is also engraved to match. Although the original owner stated that the engraved rifle or barreled action was Factory special order- Early records do not permit confirmation. For this reason this rife is simply priced as a deluxe custom rifle. Barrel engraving starts just in front of the receiver and extends forward about 7". About Perfect as customized condition - rifle - 26.25" medium weight Sporter barrel - Stock pattern is classic style, with a Niedner style checkered steel butt plate and blued steel grip cap. Various experts have categorized the superb walnut stock as being a European preference, lighter tone French walnut variant, but indicate that this stock is hard to further classify because it exhibits aspects of grain structure associated with other walnut. Grain figure includes stripe, fiddleback, and some marble cake- plus color and tonal variation. Grain structure and wood colors appear to change with light angle. Stock finish appears to be a multiple coat, hand rubbed oil or varnish final polished to high gloss with rubbing compound. Stock finish condition: about 100% new, "as-new". - blue, The bore is shiny and appears to be unfired since the rifle was built and is 100% "as-new". Overall metal finish is excellent and bluing is about 100%. - Markings: Crisp- Kokura Arsenal marking on left side of receiver at chamber - Sights: Updated Leupold M8-4x scope - This custom rifle, new as custom, was built on a Siamese Mauser action. A second full longitudinal sectioned M98 receiver was used for additional sectional views. Photos of this sectioned barreled action assembly, alternate receiver, and sectioned bolt are shown on various pages of M91 —M98 Mauser Bolt Action book. Note: This barreled action was max. cut away on the right side and used as a test platform to demonstrate the effectiveness of the M98 firing pin safety and gas control systems when within specification. Off-specification (including altered) firing pins were installed to also show firing pin positions in close-up photos. Early smokeless powder model, mfg. circa 1904.All corner edges and lettering are sharp and "as-new". All of the screws are exceptionally nice and undamaged. The interior of the cylinder is shiny and looks virtually "as-new". Bore is bright and shiny with a few pits in the grooves, mostly at the top of the bore. Rifling is exceptionally sharp all the way to the muzzle crown. Action function is smooth; detent clicks sound just like a Colt should; cylinder carry up and bolt lock are exactly on time and solid.
